So I’m almost 1️⃣8️⃣ days post-hysterectomy... - Fresh fruit is amazing because it contains important antioxidants, fiber, and other goodies for your body. But depending on the season, it can be hard to get or expensive… especially if you’re going organic. Frozen fruit to the rescue! It makes a great, affordable alternative. Most of the time, the fruit is frozen directly after they’re picked at the height of ripeness (when they are the most nutritious)! This means they’re actually more likely to have more nutrients than the fruit sitting on the shelves in your grocery store (DAYS after they are picked). Just be sure to check the ingredient label on your frozen fruit to make sure it doesn’t contain any added sugar or preservatives. Lasts longer and cheaper, FROZEN IT IS. - Sleep is such an important part of your overall health and needed to survive. It gives your body and brain chance to rest, revitalise and recharge. It is also vital for muscle recovery and repair. Studies have shown that lack of sleep can massively affect your gains and recovery. Lack of sleep can contribute to weight gain. It causes changes to hormones that regulate hunger and appetite. But seriously, if you’re having trouble getting through your training session regularly, you need to check your nutrition. • 💪🏻Are you frequently struggling to do all your sets and/or lift your target weights? Before you go taking pre-workout or making major changes you need to make sure you’re actually eating enough. • 💪🏻 if you’re trying to train for strength or hypertrophy you really need to be in a caloric surplus, or at least not a deficit. Although it’s possible to lose bodyfat and gain/maintain strength it’s suboptimal - at least without a high level of structure and discipline. • 💪🏻 Not only will an insufficient caloric balance make it hard to train, but a calorie restricted diet makes it hard to get in all your micronutrients. Today has been a really good day... *handstand press up PB - 5 with ‘head protector’, 3 without ... swipe for vid *picked up my freshly altered wedding dress, then a bright white pigeon landed in front of me 🕊 *collected the tiles for our kitchen and got a load of comments when I carried my tiles, by myself, without help, from the other women in the shop. This is my normal, but I forget that it isn’t other’s. I’ve made myself strong enough that there aren’t many things I’ll ever need to be able to pick up in my life that I won’t be able to. I cannot stress the importance of using neutral language when it comes to describing food, health and body image. 🥦⁣ ⁣ Research is demonstrating that little girls can be aware of their bodies and start to have innate body image issues as early as age 4! 👀⁣ ⁣ Without judgement, try to think back about your own childhood and how many times you heard those older than you talking about dieting, weight loss and more. For many, these observations sent a dualistic message breaking food into good and bad categories and lead us to believe in our bodies being beautiful or acceptable “IF” they fit certain standards. ☹️⁣ ⁣ Some things to consider... we often might say things like “I’m fat” (with a negative or upset tone) or “I need to lose weight” ( while pinching the perceived area that we feel we need this). You have a body! Your body is weighable and should have fat on it! SCIENCE tells us this. We have somehow taken these words and attributed shame and negativity to them. Imagine shifting these phrases to, “I want to be healthier so I can feel more confident and live longer” or “ I feel healthier and perform better when my body is more athletic”. Are you just starting your journey? Do you struggle when it comes to food? Do you stress over what to eat for the best? Want to know why? Because you don’t know food. If you get a better understanding of what’s in your food, you’ll be less likely to struggle and get stressed about what to eat. Previously if you wanted nutritional advice you were given a SMALL variety of foods i.e. chicken, rice, broccoli, eggs, etc (no spices or sauces just dry food) with allowance in weight and a time to eat, only increasing or decreasing food weights depending on the desired outcome. BETTER KNOWN AS A DIET PLAN This is all well and good and yes they do work but it doesn’t teach you anything about food, therefore not really nutritional advice. So once you’re bored of eating the same shit 24/7 you ditch it, and you get fat again! BETTER KNOWN AS THE UNREALISTIC PLAN TO THE AVERAGE JO/JOE Fortunately, for you today we have the luxury that is MY FITNESS PAL. Yes, I bang on and on about this constantly but there’s a bloody good reason. Type or scan in your food and HEY PRESTO it gives you all the nutritional advice and you are thoroughly shocked at how many calories are on your plate. Firstly, I want you to get a feel for the number of calories in the food you’re currently eating. This is the ONLY thing you need to know right now. So, take whatever food you’re about to shove in your gob away and type it in MFP. You will have to enter a quantity so be sensible with this. Also grab a few items out of the cupboard and try the bar-code scanner and get used to checking what calories are in your food The more you do this the better you will become at food choice. In the same way you pick up THOSE SHOES, scan the price tag and drop them like a hot potato, as they’re WAY out of your price range. I get crazy when I miss the gym end of subject. So it felt GREAT getting back to the gym this morning to train shoulders. I even through in some heavy sets on working sets and PR-ed at 265 # barbell shrugs as a drop set. Push yourself and get in the habit of pushing yourself further. LIVING 104/365 I hated my job. I would drag myself out of bed. Life consisted of rushing everywhere but never accomplishing! I wished it to be Friday, so I could have THAT drink (or 20) that made the stress melt away. Saturday was spent with a MAJOR hangover and consist of doing fuck all, as I was too ill. I'd sit and eat shit all day in front of the TV because it comforted me and made me feel better. Sunday I would rush to do all the things I should have done Saturday, washing, shopping, visiting, then before I knew it, the dreaded Sunday night blues had sunk in. Tomorrow the rat race would begin AGAIN. THIS IS NOT FUCKING LIVING, ITS RUSHING LIFE BY UNTIL YOU RETIRE, TO DO WHAT? SIT AT HOME AND WASTE AWAY UNTIL YOU DIE. ALL BECAUSE YOU FAILED TO SEE WHAT WAS IMPORTANT. LIVING 365/365 Work has become so much more enjoyable. I do a job that I love, but it’s still hard work, very challenging, it can be stressful at times and time consuming. You learn to deal with all of this differently, with a better mindset comes better judgement and outcomes. Everything I do is planned in my diary, my work, my training, my social life and family events. If anything comes up, I check and see when I have time. Routine is an ESSENTIAL part of my life now. Friday night I’m in bed early as I am accountable to my coach Ste McGrath every Saturday morning. I work Saturdays to keep in touch with my clients make sure they’re on track. I feel so much better within myself and my outlook on life is just amazing. I can advise on all the things I have encountered myself. Sundays are mainly for meal prepping and chilling with my family. I do enjoy every minute of the day; I hate having to go to bed sometimes and can’t wait to get up. THIS IS LIVING, ENJOYING EVERY SINGLE MINUTE OF THE DAY. WHEN I RETIRE, I’LL BE STRONG AND ABLE TO DO ALL THE THINGS I WANT TO, BECAUSE I LIVED MY LIFE WHILST PLANNING FOR MY FUTURE. All the above I do because it makes me healthier, happier and life so much more enjoyable. Who wouldn’t want that? If you’re sick of being stuck in the rat race and feel there’s no way out, let me assure you there is, and I can help.
