Homemade vs. Pre-packaged Meatballs are an easy and delicious way to add protein to your diet - but with many pre-packaged variations, they can also be a sneaky way of adding hidden carbs and fat. Prep your own using our Greek Bison Meatball recipe so that you know exactly what you’re getting! * What you’ll need: -1 lb 99% lean ground bison -1 egg -14 g panko breadcrumbs -150 g red onion, grated and drained of excess liquid -6 large mint leaves, chopped -1/3 cup chopped parsley -2 garlic cloves, minced or pressed -½ tsp dry oregano -23 g harissa paste -1 tsp salt and a pinch of black pepper * 1. Combine the egg, bread crumbs, grated red onion, mint, parsley, garlic, oregano, harissa paste, salt and pepper in a large bowl until well mixed. 2. Add bison to the bowl and work the mixture with your fingers until it’s evenly combined. (You can do this ahead of time and cover and refrigerate until you’re ready to roll). 3. When you’re ready to make the meatballs, spray your hands with a little cooking spray and form the meatballs, 45 g per meatball. 4. Heat a nonstick pan over medium heat and spray with cooking spray. 5. Arrange the meatballs in the pan and let cook, gently turning frequently so they brown on all sides (about 12 minutes). Chicken meatballs for the win! I love how simple these were to make. No extra oil needed, just omit to keep it a little lower calorie. You need the rice with this, so skip the oil. I was a little surprised this came in at 500 calories. Normally sauces pile on the calories and this ground chicken isn’t lacking in the fat area. I made sure to keep my servings small. I never want to make it an even 4 servings if there is plenty of sauce to make 6 servings. A lot of times, a little bit can go a long way and you end up with too much and a lot of wasted calories. Try going with smaller amounts and then changing it up if you see you want more sauce. You can always make adjustments to add more but it is a lot harder take back what you have already put on your plate. This is one reason I like to keep my food separate. I could have mixed the meatballs with the sauce and made them more flavorful. I opted to keep my sauce separate because I knew that is where the excess calories would come from. B A L A N C E. & HARDWORK. . . Two concepts I teach my clients. BALANCE is important to keep yourself happy and in the game. I preach to TREAT YO SELF, in MODERATION. I am close to 100% strict with my eating during the week, and I chose one or 2 times during the weekend to have a treat or 2. NOT AN ENTIRE DAY OF EATING LIKE AN ASSHOLE, but a treat. Because I do love my candy, cookies, sweets, ice cream. But I also dont like looking and feeling like shit. So it's a balance of eating well most of the time and treating myself in moderation. This helps me sustain my healthier lifestyle but also not feel like I'm on a restricted diet, which keeps me HAPPY > HANGRY. . . Learning a healthier lifestyle is HARD WORK. there is no easy fix or pill. You have to remain conscious and at times say NO to over indulging in food and alcohol. Trust me, I didnt go from living off air to eating 6x day over night. I PUT THE WORK IN, and overtime made it my LIFESTYLE. Making small changes over time makes a huge difference in the longevity of success. But you have to be willing TO DO THE WORK. . . How will you spend your Sunday? Pretending your eating habits and how shitty you feel isnt an issue? ⁣ Now that you know how much protein you need to eat from a few posts ago, heres a quick cheatsheet on some of the most popular protein sources to help fill that number in⁣ ⁣ It is important to eat as much whole foods as possible and not rely on protein powder. You may need to do that initially if you are new to tracking or just don’t have the appetite for it, but eventually, you’ll want to replace it with much more filling sources⁣ ⁣ Organic? Grass-fed? Do what you can initially. Invest in better quality cuts of meat as your budget allows for it⁣ ⁣ Most people, especially females and vegetarians/vegans are on the low side of protein. The energy was insane in the gym this morning. Watching my teammates hit some heavy lifts today helped fuel some PRs for my heavy squat day. Was only supposed to go up to 120kilos today but since it moved so well i got the go ahead to go for 125kilos which is a 7 kilo increase from back in February! Strength continues to move in the right direction and I couldn’t be happier! So much food and it’s so good! My total weight of vegetables per serving was 10.75 ounces! Add to that your chicken and rice and you’ve got one big healthy bowl. So this is how our morning started. WARNING GRAPHIC IMAGES Cow down after calving with a prolapsed uterus and unfortunately her back end aiming downhill. Firstly we turned her so gravity was with us and her head was facing down hill. We then put her on her chest with back legs pulled out behind. Replaced the uterus back where it belongs and did a purse string suture to secure. Day 120 of 180- Had a check-in with my amazing WAG Coach, Katie, and we’ve got new numbers! I asked Katie to lower my protein intake because I was struggling to get 205g in each day. Feel full for longer by eating more protein throughout the day. Here’s how: * Add your favorite protein powder to a smoothie or a batch of waffle mix at breakfast to boost your daily intake. * It sounds simple, but increasing your protein serving from 100 g to 120 g per meal can add up to help you hit your protein. * Add egg whites to scramble: Egg whites are a great way to add volume and protein to your meal with minimal added fat. Not gonna sugar coat it - I didn’t want to get on this rig...at all. I scared the 💩 outta myself last week and the idea of flying off that pull-up bar was still fresh in my brain. I have put so much trust in this process, my nutrition, this sport and everyone mentoring and helping me that I I need to make sure I have TRUST in myself. Before I hopped up there on that rig I thought “You got this. You WON’T fall. Trust and believe.” 60 pull-ups later...and it feeeeeeeelt so good.

Muscle Gain Journey Update! 💪🏼💪🏼 . . Here’s where we are! I am still in muscle-gain mode (as the long term goal), and still planning to do a powerlifting meet in early December. . . On the nutrition side of things, right now, but I am in week 4 of a “mini cut” with my nutrition coach, Josh Holton. . . What is a “mini cut”, you ask? It is a shorter, more aggressive “cut” to prolong a mass gain phase. . . Here is some science about it: our metabolisms can ADAPT. When you diet for a really long time, your metabolism will adapt to that (aka slow down). The same thing can happen during a muscle-gain (mass gain) phase. . . After being in a mass phase for months on-end, your body gets a little tired. Growing muscle is tough! 🤷🏼‍♀️ . . This mini-cut is only going to be 6 weeks or so, and then we go back into mass-gaining. . . We’ve dropped from 3000 calories to 2130 (in increments). I am a *little* less powerful during training but it hasn’t been too bad. And the nice thing about a “mini cut” vs. a longer, more traditional ‘cut’ is that it’s SHORT, haha. . . My weight has dropped from around 157-158 to around 154 and I definitely look leaner (remember the scale isn’t the only indicator of body fat loss!). . . Ok now the photo comparison above: On the left: late 2017, around 148 lb. The right photo is from this week. . . The more powerful I become in the gym & the more thoughtfully I FUEL my body, the more I respect & appreciate my body! ♥️I’ve come a LONG way from the days of 500 calories and desperation to fit into size 0 jeans, haha 👖 . Can’t complain about a week like this (even if elbows still need a bit more snap on the blocks 😌) - easy powers and heavy low hang doubles for snatch, the heaviest doubles I’ve ever done for low hang cleans and some decent jerk doubles from the rack yesterday, and some block clean PRs tonight at 77/75/73 after doubles at 68/70 and triples at 65. @jesseirizarry knows how to drive the best out of me 🖤

I LOVE this BLT bowl. Don’t let the name fool you, it’s actually pretty healthy (if you watch your portions). You can’t go crazy with the bacon, feta, and rice if you want to keep it healthy. Today marks my 12 weeks of focusing on Nutrition! NO it has not been easy. NO my results don’t show a HUGE difference, but their is CHANGE! NO I haven’t lost a ton of weight, 3.8 lbs to be exact (which could just be water 🤷🏼‍♀️) but I am okay with that because I am FUELING my body to gain muscle. I HAVE lost inches (2 inches in my waist and 2 inches in my hips). I HAVE learned so much about nutrition. I HAVE gotten stronger. I LOVE my body! 1 year ago today I started working with @workingagainstgravity for my nutrition support. I was looking to fuel myself better for my workouts, recover better and learn to eat more. The picture on the left was one of my first pictures taken after beginning, the right picture is today. Not much has changed except I eat about 700 calories more a day and have a lot more muscle 😊. This is my Working Against Gravity team at our annual staff retreat. ♥️ . . Background: in 2015, when I knew I no longer wanted to be an attorney and decided I wanted to move into the health & fitness world, I had NO idea where to begin. 🤷🏼‍♀️ . . I started with personal training because — it seemed obvious, lol. 💪🏼 That’s where transformation happens, right? The gym! 😄 . . Then I realized the critical importance of *nutrition*. So I got my Precision Nutrition certification and started coaching clients one-on-one in a big globo-gym. . . But… then I discovered WAG!! ⭐️ WAG is BIGGER than just nutrition. We take into consideration the mental and emotional parts of transformation. (We have a whole training manual about personal growth, the psychology of change, etc.!). . . I remember telling my colleague at the globo-gym, “If I were offered a job at WAG, I’d immediately take it!” (Not thinking it would ever happen) 😔 . . The universe works in cool ways 😲 . . A couple of weeks later I DID get a job offer from WAG, and since then, I’ve had the chance to help transform the lives of many, many amazing people. 💕 . . It’s not *all* about nutrition, it’s not *all* about fitness — it’s about becoming the best version of yourself, from the inside out. . . Here are some pictures from our annual retreat! This mushroom pasta smelled so good cooking Sunday, so I couldn’t wait too long before I ate it...and I don’t even like mushrooms so that’s saying a lot. Usually it has whole wheat farfalle pasta, but the carba-nada has so much protein and half the carbs of regular pasta...it’s a no-brainer. I LOVE these noodles. I’m not a cardio person, I think most of my life I have tried to pick up some form of cardio, and then I give up, because it’s just not my jam, and no amount of rap music helps my motivation. . . . When I first started trying to loose weight, I ran miles and miles, I pushed a double bob for countless hours, hoping it would help to shred weight. Instead, I found myself discouraged, tired and sore. I added miles to my shoes and stroller, but never found happiness in doing so. This doesn’t mean I don’t do cardio, I just won’t ever sign up for cardio as my first choice of workout anymore... EVER... Cardio is for some, but just not me. . . . So when I saw this @wagsandweights shirt, I had to have it, because it speaks to my soul. I’m hopeful that maybe, the bike will change in the WOD today when I show up to @crossfitaggieland sporting this crop. A girl can dream right? . . .
