Got up & out this morning. Best way to start a long bank holiday weekend. I followed the @runpoole 10km route, but came up a little short I must have cut a corner somewhere. Much better than last time I tried it as I ran tremlow this time! Like most of us in old town & baiter the course passes either down or at the end of our roads so no need to travel for a race route! Very warm out, sweated buckets! Not many people out either. Happy with a couple of segment pb’s, but really should have pushed for a 30 seconds quicker a mile, but not really pushing myself as I should at the moment. However being sensible with food & more active at work & seen a decent weight drop this month (weighed in a week late) but now 3kg down from the turn of the year. 2kg over March after difficult January & slow February! Tried something new tonight - a #trailrun at Hidden Mesa. Definitely adding this as an option for a change of scenery. One time around the loop is 2.8 miles but of course we overshot the trailhead because we were having too much fun! Only drawback is it is also a beginner mountain bike trail so more bikes than I’d like to see. Shouting out @sgaus06, @jillmageetap, and Take Action Performance for the amazing foam rolling and activation exercises they gave me to help with my foot pain a couple months ago! I’ve linked some of the exercises here (if you want more, go visit their pages!!). I do these exercises before every run and with each run I’ve done pain free, it’s helped me feel more C O N F I D E N T! The affirmations today is I am CONFIDENT!! Today was a testament that we can do more than just run to feel confident: we can foam roll for self care, we can strengthen our muscles by lifting weights, we can fuel our bodies with proper nutrition, we can relieve stress by journaling our thoughts... there are SO many things we can do now that we will thank ourselves for once quarantine is over. For me, it’s foam rolling before each run, and here is a list of what I did: 1. Rolling the top of my quad; I usually roll both up and down as well as drop my hips side to side to roll east and west. 2. Rolling just above the knee. This gets more into the quad and helps break up some of the tissue to prevent injuries such as runners knee. 3. Rolling out the glute. This motion is great for not only the glutes, but it’s a hidden hamstring exercise, as well as extending your range of motion in your hips. 4. Rolling behind the knee; this relieve pressure on both sides of the knee as well as getting some extra work in the upper calf 5. SHINS! This one is SO helpful if you’re like me and get shin splints. It might hurt, but rolling out your shin is necessary to help with shin splints. 6. Fire hydrants. A great hip stabilizer, core workout, and glute activation if done correctly. I learned it’s not about how fast you go, but how stable you keep your core and keep your hips steady. 7. Glute bridges. You should feel this in your hamstrings and glutes. NOT YOUR BACK. If you can’t get your feet to stay stable like I couldn’t at first, put something in between your legs to grip like your foam roller to make sure you’re getting the most out of this move. 8. Calf raises. With this, it’s important to activate your core and your glutes before you attempt doing these. Continued in comments!

•New Setup• . I made some major changes to my home yoga studio today. With the help of my youngest, we successfully plugged my laptop into the TV so that I could follow my yoga class a little easier. It required me to clean up the TV room a bit so that I had room for my yoga mat, but it needed to be done. . I’ve noticed a difference in my running since I started yoga in February. Got a 5 miler in today. The goal for this running session was to focus on maintaining my form once I start getting tired, which has been occurring around mile 3 as of late. So, I used miles 3 and 4 to give it a try. Overall, the run went according to plan....but now I’m looking forward to implementing this as I increase the mileage (and pace, maybe 😅). I forgot to take a workout pic this morning, so this pic of blooming bleeding hearts will have to do. 😊 This morning was a hills repeat. I feel like this is way too easy and wondering if I’m doing it wrong? I’m going at a 5% - 7% hill, but it’s only for 15 seconds, then a minute recovery then 15 seconds back down the hill. All of that repeated 3 times. I’m running at a 10:00 pace. I was smiling in this pic because it was after I turned to head back home and didn’t have a brutal headwind for a few miles. Thankfully I got out to my favorite trail and got to enjoy that for a bit but this workout was brutal with the wind. Threw my stride off a bit and really tightened up my back. Probably could have pushed the 4th but I just didn’t feel like it would be worth a potential injury. Pace was pretty much on point for my 3 5ks which I will definitely take! RSD 67: just a couple of miles on these blustery Baltimore streets before dinner. Downed branches are everywhere and made a bridge on the north part of Herring Run Park impassable. There’s nothing like a lockdown to reframe your “I have to run” to “I get to run.” Definitely not taking for granted that I can still get outside and keep air moving through my lungs during these crazy times. The sidewalk message says it all, STAY POSITIVE! We all are struggling with any of the following: being stuck at home, trying to entertain your kids, make sure school work is done, make sure your work is done, you may be an essential worker and have to go into your job, you are not able visit extended family and friends. Let’s take a moment and find something that happened today that was positive! We all need to try and shift our minds to have more positivity in our daily lives. As the @workoutsnap pic is showing you I was able to get a 3 mile run in. What it is not showing you that I had a fall around .3 miles into my run. Oops. Not sure how it all played out but I totally wiped out on the sidewalk. Probably a good thing to have social distancing going on so no friends saw me fall unless they were driving by. So back to my STAY POSITIVE moment. Even though I had a fall, I said let’s see if I can make it a mile or I’ll head back. I checked my knee at the traffic lights and found I was ok to continue. First semi- decent interval session for weeks: 2 x 11 min intervals circa 6:55, 40 sec rest and 2 minutes between sets on my new treadmill 💅 (which I swear has a dodgy speed setting and is going way too fast....🤷‍♀️🧐). My kids decided to simultaneously ask me lots of questions requiring more than one word responses and considerable breath 😆and requests to fill their hot water bottles (and yes, we are in the midst of a mini heat wave). Today’s weather consisted of rain, sleet, hail, snow, sun...and wind all day long. I thought when I went out for this speed workout that I’d be ok...nope...got a half mile away from the house and it started to hail on me. I looked crazy! Today’s run done after a pretty mental two days working from home (even across our holiday today but well worth it). Feel like I got plenty done, learned a lot remotely so confidence up. Today was a good isolation day. I appreciate everything in my life right now. Miss my parents and kids so much but one day, it will be ok. Tomorrow I’m going to chill in our back garden, plant more, dig more, paint more, a bit of badminton and then bbq and a beer as a reward! Hope everybody is ok. It was very windy out today but that worked in my favour, nobody was out. Running in the wind blew away some of my bla 💨😛 .... Post work 10k & I really struggled to shift my arse out of the door this evening as you can tell from the third pic 😛 . Once I got going then things started to change mentally & physically - fresh air in the lungs & adrenaline pumping through my body was the perfect natural drug injection I needed 👍🏻😄 . . Well that was a tough one! It was humid and windy at the same time but I hit my goal paces a couple of times. Speedwork is not my favorite. I’d rather run 18 miles at easy pace any day than repeats at 7-something pace. But it’s done and I didn’t pass out! With a list of things to hunt for on today’s run (a run club task), I changed up my usual routes for a completely different one and it was SO worth it! 😁 . I had one of those days yesterday where the child was over tired and grouchy and it just frazzled my brain so today’s run was very much needed for my sanity! 😩 . Spring time is possibly my favourite time of year and I’m so glad I got to enjoy it for a little while. Not every day is the most positive but there’s always some positives to take from it. 😊 .
