#ww2history #ww2 #germanyww2 #italianmilitaria #italianhistory #letters #militaria #history #worldwartwo at Bolzano, Italy

On October 2, 1938, the Polish Army troops commanded by Gen. Władysław Bortnowski, greeted by the Polish population, took over part of Cieszyn Silesia, called Zaolzie, belonging to Czechoslovakia. The Poles were the majority of the inhabitants there. Poles constituted the vast majority of the inhabitants on a large part of Zaolzie. In the interwar years Poles in Zaolzie were harassed and persecuted. An assimilation policy was pursued against them. In 1938, Poland used the loneliness and dramatic international situation of Czechoslovakia after the conference in Munich. The conference was attended by four powers: Germany, France, Great Britain and Italy without the participation of Poland, which is accused of participating in the conference. Poland submitted an ultimatum, demanding that Zaolzie be withdrawn from Czechoslovakia, which was accepted by the Prague government. Claims against Zaolzie have led to accusations that Warsaw has joined the ill-fated Czechoslovakia by the Third Reich, which is not justified. The Poles from Zaolxia were not happy when the Polish army entered. In order to understand the motives of Poland that has taken over your territories, you have to go back 20 years back. The entry of Polish troops into Zaolzie was a consequence of the aggression of the Czech troops in Cieszyn Silesia in 1919. Aggression not provoked by Poland. On January 23, 1919, the Czechoslovak army occupied the Polish part of Cieszyn Silesia. The Czechoslovak army attacked Poland in 1919, when it was occupied by a war on the eastern border. The remains of Polish troops stopped them only at Skoczów. It was a blow in the back. The Poles in Cieszyn Silesia were busy preparing for elections to the legislative Seym of the Republic of Poland. The vote was to take place on January 26, 1919. Then the Czechs struck. They realized that this vote would be a plebiscite - Poles in Cieszyn Silesia would vote for Poland. That is why they decided not to allow this vote. They sent there their troops, which occupied almost the entire disputed region. More ➡️ @_history_pl

Overhead views of the Baltimore and Oregon City class heavy cruisers. The Oregon City class were modified versions of the proceeding Baltimore class. The classes carried the same main and secondary batteries. Armor and machinery was very similar as well. The Oregon City class differed from the Baltimore class in that they were designed to have a more compact superstructure. This gave the anti-aircraft weapons better firing arcs as well as reduced topweight, improving stability. The two funnels of the Baltimore class were trunked into a single funnel which further served to reduce weight and make the superstructure smaller. This layout was also utilized in the Fargo class light cruisers which were improvements over the Cleveland class. Of the ten ships ordered, only four were completed. The end of the Second World War saw the other six being cancelled. Only three, Oregon City, Albany, and Rochester were completed as intended. Of the three, Albany was converted into a guided missile cruiser while the others served as gun cruisers. The fourth ship, Northampton, was completed as a command ship. The B-25 Mitchell was a twin engine medium bomber used by the USAAF during the Second World War. It saw action in Africa, Europe and the Pacific theater. The most famous mission that the B-25 was used in was the Doolittle raid. During this mission multiple modified B-25s were launched off a US aircraft carrier and bombed the Japanese mainland. #b25 #mitchell #aviationlovers #aviation #aviationart #usaaf #vintageaviation #warbird #fighteraircraft #ww2history

Panzerfaust: 2. Dünya Savaşı 'nda Almanların geliştirdiği en etkili tanksavar silahıydı. 6 milyon adet üretildi. Bugün kullanılan RPG roketlerinin babası sayılır. 90 mm çapında boşluklu imla hakkıyla dolu patlayıcı başlığı vardı. Ağırlığı 5–10 kg, boyu bir metre kadardı. Boru şeklindeki gövdesi düşük derece çelikten üretilmiştir. Etki menzili 60 metreydi. ▪ ▪ #ww2german #ww2germany #ww2history #history #ww2 #ww2incolor #ww2reenactment #ww2planes #german #germanww2 #germany #panzerfaust #nazigermany

Mamayev Hill (Mamayev Kurgan) is one of the most memorable places in Volgograd. People usually associate it with the Russian Great Patriotic War, but only some people know that the secrets and legends of other centuries lie in this place. One of the mysteries is connected with the name of the hill. There are lots of versions of the origin of the name "Mamayev Hill". According to one version during the reign of Khan Mamai there was an outpost of the Mongol-Tatars. Another version says that the etymology of the word "Mamai" is from ancient Tibetan means "the mother of the world", but why it is called Kurgan is not mentioned. Mamayev Hill is the epitome of unsurpassed talent of the Soviet sculptor Yevgeny Vuchetich who is also the author of the magnificent sculpture "Warrior-liberator" in Treptow Park in Berlin, allegorical statues "We will beat swords into ploughshares" at the UN building in New York. #ww2 #ww2souvenirs #motherland #stalingrad #mamayev #mamayevhill #mamayevkurgan #stalingradbattle #ww2history #mamayevkurgan

January 23, 1919 The Czechoslovak army took over the Polish part of Cieszyn Silesia. They sent there their troops, which took almost the entire disputed region to the Vistula. During these military operations in Stonawie, Czech soldiers killed 20 soldiers from the 12th Wadowicki Infantry Regiment taken with their bayonets. The victims were naked, without documents and personal belongings. There were more such atrocities. Captain Cezary Haller (brother of general Józef Haller - commander of the Polish army in France) was hit by a bullet on January 26, 1919 in the lost battle of the Little Kończyce in the Cieszyn poviat. He stood at the head of a squad of four hundred Polish soldiers. He fell from a rifle, but he was still alive. The Czech soldiers fitted him with a bayonet. The Polish-Czech border in Cieszyn Silesia was determined after this offensive of the Czech army from 1919. The Czechs took Poles from Zaolzie, which were mostly inhabited by Poles. There, all villages spoke only in Polish. However, Edward Benesz, a Czech delegate at the peace conference, negotiated in Paris support for the Czech plans to take over Cieszyn Silesia. It happened when the Red Army stood at the gates of Warsaw. A year later, the Council of Ambassadors arbitrarily divided Cieszyn Silesia, awarding the Polish territories of Czechoslovakia (without a plebiscite). The Olza River was the border. On the Czech side was the southern part of Cieszyn. Zaolzie meant the areas of Cieszyn Silesia located behind Olza. In 1938 Poland took advantage of the loneliness and dramatic situation of Czechoslovakia, and the Polish Army troops marched into Zaolzie. ➡️ @history_pl_color

US 7th Army soldiers from 2nd Platoon, Company F, 2nd Battalion halt their advance to marvel at a fortification on the Maginot Line near Climbach, France, 15 December, 1944. (Colorized by /u/rwwhite20) ___ FACT: The Maginot Line consisted of 142 artillery forts, 352 casemates and 5,000 smaller fortifications, many of which were laid out across the landscape to create interlocking fields of fire. Installations were also linked by a labyrinth of tunnels allowing personnel to move from position to position. Supporting the line was a network of mobile rail guns that could bring extra fire to bear where needed. Overseeing the entire chain was a string of 78 of hilltop fire control decks that enabled observers to direct artillery fire onto enemy troop and vehicle concentrations. The whole system was linked by its own self-contained telephone and wireless communications infrastructure.

23rd Headquarters Special Troops (Operation Quicksilver) also known as the “Ghost Army.” In 1944 a few months before D-Day the U.S. made a fake army and made fake radio communications to trick the German Army (wehrmacht). The 1,100 man unit was given the task of impersonating other divisions and confusing the enemy.
