. . •Yoga in heat• . Practicing yoga in heat allows the muscles to warm up a lot fastest. It goes to show that those practicing yoga in heated rooms develop their flexibility a lot faster. Common examples are Bikram practitioners and ashtangis, although in both cases the regularity of the practice is an even bigger component than the heat (or the sequence). . Aside from the flexibility aspect, practicing yoga in a heated room - long term - can have a few additional benefits : • improve tolerance to heat [PMID : 28739443] • enhance detoxification [PMID : 7144634] • improve skin health [PMID : 16871826] . I used to teach hot yoga 4 times a week for 2.5 year at a gym in Angel 🇬🇧 & saw first hand how the bodies of the regular students transformed over the course of a few months. . . If you don’t have a sauna at home, and flexibility is an area you want to work on - I suggest you get visit your gym’s or local spa’s steam room or sauna & practice some gentle stretches there. Try not overdoing it the first couple of times & use stretches you are already familiar with. . On Sunday the 2nd of Feb 2020 I will be teaching a series of workshop on breathing and body temperature regulation as part of the @makesomebreathingspace  teacher’s training. There are spaces available to public so if you are interested you can attend just for the day. .

Thyroid mudra 💫 so important to regulate so many parts of the body and a great little tool for just before/during or after meditation. When I use it, despite the thyroid being near the Adams apple I can rest in my back body a little more easefully. We are very front body orientated in the West - concerned with our ‘intake’ and yet, resting in the back body when seated allows the nervous system to feel deeply calm and integrated.

Yoga exams are approaching 📚 . From theory and yoga philosophy to anatomy and practical adjustments, I can't beleive how much we have learnt in the last couple of months. I have always loved to learn, and learning about a topic you love is one of the most magical thing. I am not saying it is easy, but it is definitely more pleasant than forcing random knowledge into your brain. 🧠 .
