When we flow with life, and accept the constant changes, we invite joy & fulfilment into our lives. When we resist change, we are constantly fighting against life, this is tiring for our body and mind. By remaining fixed and wanting things to be the same, we are not living in-line with reality. By allowing ourselves to experience whatever occurs in life, we are living in the present moment. Like the constant changing waves of the sea, when we surf, we must flow with the waves or ride along the waves to ensure we stay balanced and on top. We don’t resist or fight against the waves, for we would only fall off the surfboard and hurt ourselves. PAUSE & NARROW GRIP BP | - I usually superset these two exercises after my normal increasing weight BP. - PAUSE BP: • Wide grip • Pause 1-2 seconds at the bottom • Focus more on pecs gains! Here is how to cook up these lentils: _____________________________________ Soak 1 cup of lentils in 4 cups of water for 1 hour. Bring to a boil, simmer for 20 mins. Drain and bam, ready to eat. Throwing back on a Monday 🧜🏻‍♀️ I’m so excited to be adding two of the classes I subbed last week, to my permanent schedule: ✨ Fridays 75-min YIN Fusion Flow at 10:30am Saturdays 75-min HOT Fusion Flow at 9am ✨ Both classes have symbolic and sentimental vibes to me, especially the Saturday morning one ~ if you’ve been taking my classes long enough you’ll know why 😉 The Friday Yin is the only yin class I will be teaching each week! When we engage in a yoga process we make space. We create space to step out and away from the primal fight or flight state of reactivity. To react quickly to something can be very useful. A chandelier become loose and starts to descend down towards your head, you quickly step out of the way, awesome! You have the reflexes of a panther. Or, you get an email that contains language that is confusing and can be read many different ways, it feels like it could be an attack, or maybe it is clearly an attack and you begin to gear up for a fight, the nervous system ramps up and you start to find ways to confront this person who ‘threatened’ your existence. Not so great. Having a practice means just that, it needs to be practiced in the moments we need it the most. The mat is the perfect condition for that practice, temperature controlled room, soothing voiced teacher and music that lets you float off. But most likely the place you really have to practice is in an office chair, after a night of not so great sleep and that email that just arrived pushed all of your buttons. That fight instincts is on full right alert. Now is the time for yoga. This is the real practice, take the lessons from the mat into this space. Over come the tendency to defend and attack. Become less reactive. I find the the best thing to do is absolutely NOTHING. One of the hardest lessons I had to do learn, was to do nothing. To sit in that discomfort. To create space. I am grateful for my practice for getting me to the other side of moments that appeared insurmountable. For teaching me to keep shifting perspective until the impossible appeared possible. 🍃 E Q U I N O X 🍂. This weekend we saw a change in the seasons ☀️. The autumn equinox arrived at 9:54 PM 🔮 on Saturday, September 22, 2018, officially marking the beginning of fall 🍂 in the Northern Hemisphere 🌎 and the start of spring 🌸 in the Southern Hemisphere 🌏. The word “equinox” comes from Latin and means “equal night,” referring to the roughly 12-hour day ☀️ and 12-hour night ✨ that occurs only on the two ✌🏻 equinox days of the year 📆. The Autumn Equinox 🌳 is a meaningful time of year to honor the harvest 🌾. Spiritually 🧘🏼‍♀️ speaking, it is a time to acknowledge 🙏🏻 abundance as our natural state 👣 of being 👱🏼‍♀️. Some people say I cannot meditate because I cannot stay quite, my body kept moving, my monkey mind all over the place, I will fall asleep. The mindset before we do meditation is really important . Meditation is a journey to have calmer mind. With calmer mind, we can go deep within us. Believe in the more we do it, the better we are on it. And do it without any expectation to get either visions or messages because if we attach to the expectation, it will lead us to another layer of ego . The coolest thing just happened👇 💫 Background: I usually like to plan my Sundays around @ginamarieyogini and/or @yogabill61 classes and had every intention of doing so today.. but after a client and a cup of coffee, every bone in my body wanted to go to the gym instead. When I recognize a gut feeling these days, it’s my goal to obey; I try to listen to my body as much as possible. So I ditched my plan and just went with it, hoping I wouldn’t regret it later. 💫 I warmed up on the stairmaster, unsure what my workout would even look like. I put on @peptalkmotivation, blocked out the world, and felt beast mode turn on. Ahhhh okay.. this is why we’re here.. I felt the treadmill calling me, so I went to the treadmill. Body wanted sprints, so I started sprinting. 💫 Then magic happened.. 💫 Every time I got to the point where I normally would have jumped to the sides to catch my breath because I could. not. go. any. longer.. I found a way to keep running. 💫 “Breathe,” I hear from my inner yogi, as the weight on my chest grew denser and my legs begged to give out. 💫 “Just breathe,” she says again, as I zone into the epic soundtrack playing in my ears. My feet keep moving. 💫 “Keep breathing.” My body stays up. I’m still going. 💫 “Focus on your breath.” “Inhale. Exhale.” It’s been ten seconds.. how is this possible? 💫 “Few more.. that’s it.. and... release.” I hop off. 💫 I take a long, slow, controlled, deep breath. I even manage to keep my chest up and chin up. I am.. okay. It was the closest I’ve ever felt to not being able to breathe.. and I was.. somehow.. somewhat.. graceful? in the aftermath of sprinting the hardest and fastest I ever have in my entire life [this is not an exaggeration]. It felt like something outside of myself got me through that. Over and over and over again. 💫 I looked at the heart rate monitor and saw the highest number I have ever seen. I just got to a whole new level. Of what I’m not sure, just a wholeeeee new level. [This is what I mean when I say exercise can be a spiritual experience.] 💫 The yogi and the sprinter shook hands. 🏃‍♀️ “Good game.” 🧘‍♀️”Namaste.” . . . Do you have back pain? Or do you know some that does? Tag them and get on the road to healing 👇👇 yoga teacher: @miss_sunitha ・・・ When I refer to pain here, I don’t mean sharp pain. Pain in this context refers to discomfort, like the discomfort you may feel in your lower back from sitting too long or walking too much (possibly with not the most supportive foot ware), for example. . Most lower back discomfort is caused by some sort of compression in the lower spine, whether it’s structural or through habits accumulated over time. I’ve always had lower back discomfort, mainly due to my non symmetrical bone structure which easily creates compression in my lower back. If you tend to feel lower back compression, these are some of my go-to yoga stretches that I find to be very helpful which you could try. . The areas I like to focus on is really in 2 parts: . 1️⃣ Creating length in the spine - With every inhalation (especially poses 1, 5, 7 & 9) think of lengthening by envisioning space between each vertebrae. Specifically for cobra pose (pose 9), focusing on the back instead of the front body can sometimes cause further compression. So try pressing the elbows to the ground to further push the shoulders down and lift the chest. If it’s too intense, bring the elbows further forward. Think of lengthening the front body by pressing the hips down and pushing the chest up. Relax the glutes. . 2️⃣ Extension in the side body (poses 2, 4, 6, 8 & 10) - Initiate the side stretch only on an exhalation. With every inhalation, think of extending the side body (from the hips all the way to the fingertips), but make sure not to compress one side when stretching another. Try to see create extension without compromising the other. Remember, think of them as a side stretch, not a twist. So don’t worry about going deep to the side. Instead focus on feeling length and extension in the side body. The more space you can create in your side body, the more space you will allow for the spine to extend, which will help promote mobility in your lower back. . Give it a try, and modify with blo

I have been thinking a lot about adventure and travel since being out of the country. It used to be something I aspired to. An out of reach goal that would complete my life. Once I was well traveled, then I will have really lived. While seeing new places is exciting and eye opening, I have begun to understand that there is still so much to experience, hundreds of thousands of people to meet in my hometown alone.
