It takes discipline for me to REST when I really want to hit the ground running, especially this week with what I know will be another epic Young Living Black Friday/Uber Monday. Stress, even chronic stress, might be common in our culture but it’s not normal. Our bodies were not designed to withstand the constant stimulation of our modern society. Even if it’s 5 minutes, what are you doing to do to slow your roll? For me, it’ll be 10 minutes of the Calm App on my biomat with some Sacred Mountain. You know that feeling when something you’ve envisioned for a long time comes to be? Yesterday morning was one of those moments for me. Beth Catlett Murphy & I co-hosted a Yoga 🧘‍♀️ + Essential Oils class on my porch. She is an AH-MAZING yoga instructor and I can’t wait to do more together! It was really fun brainstorming about which oils to pair with which poses and then to watch it all unfold and to experience it as well. One of my favorite parts was Beth’s mini neck and shoulder massage while we inhaled Lavender & Stess Away with a warm oil infused wash cloth. Self-care especially this time of year is both hard to keep up with and even more important to make happen. Happy Friday! Flu season has definitely begun this year. So today is my reminder to take care of yourself- physically, mentally, emotionally, and otherwise. Self care is so vital to a healthy life. So take time for you, because you can’t fill others cups if yours is empty.

A bit late to post week 2 of the @miss.t.in.tulle challenge but better late then never! This time we were challenged to look at ourselves and ensure we were doing something for ourselves and not getting burnt out. This came at a good time for me for a few reasons. 1- It's report writing time so I have not been prioritising myself. 2- I'm organising a trip for the school. 3- class camp coming next week. So work was the only thing on my brain even after I got mild concussion after being smacked in the head with the rugby ball on Friday. Teacher guilt is so real, I worked after being advised not to and went to work. My head was pounding and that's when I had to step back and take time for me. I reminded myself that my health and head come first. I can't pour from an empty cup. So despite reports needing to be done, I have taken a few days off and am laying off my laptop to recharge. Have you had a time where you have felt teacher guilt? What do you do to recharge? . . . . . .

I’ll show you: Before: -The circles under my eyes are too dark -My shoulders are too wide -My arms are too big -My skin has big pores and is sensitive -My breasts are too small -I have hairs on my chin -My belly is fat -My ribs are too big -I have stretch marks that won’t go away -My bum is not big enough -My legs rub together -My toes are weird -I am unfit -I am unwell -I am unworthy of attention or love because my body is imperfect After: -My eyes are sparkling blue and allow me to see all the beauty in this world -My shoulders are strong and have held so much pain that a young girl wasn’t ready to take on, but did because I had to. My shoulders helped to carry me through -My arms are open to give and receive long hugs -My skin is so very soft and has the loveliest freckles in the summer and the cutest rosy cheeks in the winter -My breasts are perky and supple and allow me to live most days without wearing a restrictive bra. Flawless femininity that gave nourishment and connection to both of my gorgeous baby girls, and they continue to give pleasure and receive pleasure -The hair on my chin gives me an escape to meditatively pluck -My ribs house my heart and my lungs. Oh my heart! My breath! My soul! What divine ribs to have such an important job -My stretch marks show how much space and expansion my body gave to hold and birth 2 precious souls -My bum is firm and curvy enough and gives me the perfect cushion to rest my tired feet -My legs are so lean and take me to so many magical places -My toes, oh how I love my weird toes, which are connected to my feet that ground me and allow me to explore -I am healthy -I am well -I am worthy of receiving nourishment, attention and love. This is our second week of our month long kindness challenge and what better way to celebrate than by showing yourself a little love?! It's so true that we can't be expected to pour from an empty cup, so we want to encourage you all to take the time to simply be kind to you; because guess what? You are worth it! This past week I decided to focus on a few areas that benefit my mental well being such as reading, breathing, yoga, and I even found time to sneak in a pedicure as a little treat to myself. SELF CARE Not always easy is it? And so much more than just running a nice bubble bath, or doing a spot of yoga occasionally. The thing about self care, is that it is not just for Sunday’s, it is a million different small acts and habits that build up over time. It is about understanding that you, and your needs are as important as anyone else’s. It is eating well, exercising regularly, getting enough sleep, doing things that feed your soul, mind and spirit, having fun, and surrounding yourself with people that build you up rather than pull you down. It is about clearing the toxic shit out of your life, and being an advocate for yourself. Learning to say no, but also embracing opportunity when it arises, and yes sometimes it is the bubble bath and yoga too. It has taken me a long time, and I’m not 100% there yet, but if there is anything my brush with cancer and subsequent battles with depression have taught me, it is the true meaning of self care. I am important, and at risk of sounding like a L’Oréal advert, I am worth it. One of my favourite "self care" activities is reading biographies or watching docos about people achieving extraordinary things, inspirational, motivational, unique, powerful, influencial people and circumstances... When I saw this book only a few days ago in a Koorong book store I knew I'd love it! "I'll Push You" is a book about two guys with a truely amazing life long friendship. One of which ends up in a wheelchair and yet his best mate commits to pushing him along a difficult mountain trek in Spain! I'm only half way through and absolutely loving it. Turns out they made a documentary about their journey too which I hope to watch once I finish the book but in the mean time.. My spunky, gorgeous babies on a beautiful (still hot 🥵) fall afternoon, playing outside waiting for their daddy to come home. . . What you see here on these children’s faces is happiness, resilience, and innocence. . . Behind the camera is a mommy who is keeping it all together to maintain normalcy; the status quo of a military wife. . . What you don’t see in an overwhelmed mama is the stress, cycling anxious thoughts, utter exhaustion, and feelings of being on the cusp of failure as mommy and wife’s identity and personal dreams dissipate as she serves her children and spouse. After all, mommies are human, too. . . But this mommy DOES have an identity outside of Army wife and trench mom to a kindergartener and early toddler. She IS chasing her dreams. . . Sometimes it may feel like balancing both is impossible, but I’ve made changes in my life so that I can serve both myself AND my family. . .
