Memory is a funny thing. Things that used to seem like a big deal fade into the fabric of our story and lose their power. Except when they don’t...⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So why is that? Why can someone go about their lives as though everything were fine, only to be derailed emotionally by a seemingly random recall? Something where others say “what’s the big deal? Why can’t you get past it?” This usually relates to trauma. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Traumatic memories are different. They don’t lose their power, they don’t fade, or develop perspective. It’s as though they were happening all over again. And unfortunately, they often come with the shaming thought of “what is wrong with me - why can’t I just get over it?” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The answer is that there is nothing wrong with you. But there is something different about the way your brain processed the information. Summer vacation has begun 🏖️ . I realized a few days ago that this is my FIRST summer off since I was 12 years old!! My parents owned businesses my whole life So I always worked 🤷 . I am excited to take the next couple of months for me and my boys! Buuuut, who here struggles mentally with change 🙋 . It's so important to know your mental health "triggers" journalling/taking mindful moments throughout your day can help with identifying these. I know when my routine gets ruffled I get out of sorts, sometimes I can anticipate it (like preparing for summer holidays) but sometimes I don't catch it right away and that's when things get dark. . Once you know your triggers you can work to prevent or at least recognize when you're slipping into whatever your darkness may look like. This is why establishing healthy habits is so so SO important, when you're not present you will always revert to your habits. . Happy Canada Day!🇨🇦 Today we celebrate the privilege that comes with living in Canada. Is it perfect here? No. But we have a lot going for us and today is a day to celebrate that. Whether you are spending the day celebrating at events, barbecues, and fireworks, or if you are having a relaxing day off, or if today is a working holiday for you, I encourage you to take a moment and reflect on what living in Canada means to you. . What am I grateful for about living in Canada? Being a mom really brought this one into perspective for me. I was able to spend an entire year off with my son. Because of this, I was able to properly heal and able to bond with my son at such a critical time without having to worry about work or childcare. I knew I had a job waiting for me at the end of the year if I choose to return. I knew that there were laws protecting my workers rights during this period. Also, my son was born early and we had a long NICU stay that ended up costing us $0. My estimates are that this would have been a million dollars (plus) if we didn’t live in Canada. Ok, let’s talk inner-critic. We think we need to be hard on ourselves. “If I can just improve x,y,z then I will be where I want to be and will love myself”. But criticism is not a good motivator, so we don’t have good odds of achieving our goals. Plus, we feel like crap because we keep beating ourselves up. At this point, we are very far removed from self-love. . An alternative? Having a friendly, compassionate relationship with ourselves where we offer support and encouragement when we are trying to meet certain goals or realizing we can’t quite measure up. It’s so close I can almost taste it! . . Three more days until school is OUT for the summer. No more packing lunches, checking agenda’s, hounding the kids to do their home reading and home work. Don’t get me wrong, I love when my kids are at school learning and I particularly love the routine that comes with school. But these past few months have been a huge struggle for one of my kids, his mental health took a real dive. My work schedule went out the door depending on whether or not the worry bug would rear his ugly head. Navigating my own mental health while supporting my son has not been an easy task. I just want to take it all away! . . There are several things that have and continue to help me. 1) I stay consistent with exercising. Releasing those endorphins are key. 2) While my routine might be thrown off, I have a plan B for when that happens. A back up plan if you will. 3) I am practicing gratitude and compassion. With others and our family. What I think something should look like and what it actually is can be two different things. Letting go of expectations and simply doing what is right in the moment. 4) Asking for help. This was a hard one for me. I have had to cancel so many meetings and events which normally leaves me feeling like I’ve disappointed people. I hate disappointing people. I don’t give the whole story but snippets so the situations are understood. I ask for suggestions and help from people I trust. 5) personal development has been in the works every day, I love learning about different perspectives and listening to motivational stories. I can honestly say without a doubt that I have grown more as a person this year than I had ever dreamed of. I am more comfortable in my own skin than ever before. . . This summer we had planned on going overseas with the older boys but circumstances prevail and we called an audible. Putting the work in for mental health is much more important. Certainly not easy. Probably not fun but necessary to live a happier life. I am so grateful to have the mental health services we have. I hope to take you all on this journey with us in hopes it will help other families!

Now is probably a good time to clarify a few things! Amiraj Healing is me, Amira Jacobs. I am an energy medicine therapist or energy healer and my work is rooted in the original Healing Touch program founded by Janet Mentgen. I use my hands with compassionate intention to balance your energy body and support self-healing. That is number one. A secondary service that I am now offering is mindful yoga classes and compassionate private yoga sessions. Embracing change for some us means living by design and with purpose. It is through change that you can better recognize your strengths, your passion and your purpose in life. Think about the 4 seasons as they change you gain an appreciation for the next or the past season. treat life the same. Sometimes it’s so easy to go on autopilot and blame your adhd when things go wrong. in some cases we default to our adhd as the trigger. But let’s go deep into this. We all have a choice at every single second of our life and it’s the result of the choices that we make that can lead the next path forward.
