Our Director of Coffee, the intrepid Ben Bowdoin (@bigwetbrains), is currently traveling in Ethiopia with our import partners @trabocca. Trips like this are exploratory, educational, and absolutely necessary for our business. Outside of getting in front of the freshest lots from that origin, we're able to create and strengthen relationships that pay off long-term for all parties involved. If we keep our focus on quality and relationships, we'll always present a great menu of coffees. #1000facescoffee #makethemundanesacred #resistbadcoffee at Ethiopia

!ANNOUNCEMENT! In addition to the very poor weather forecasted for Sunday, our good friend and biscuit magician Mike of @thefarmcart nearly took his thumb off in the kitchen yesterday while prepping for the weekend. 7 stitches later and he's as good new! Don't fret about the postponement - we'll be back at it next Sunday the 16th. #1000facescoffee #resistbadcoffee #makethemundanesacred at 1000 Faces Coffee

. >>NEW COFFEE<< . . >>KOKO BUNI BLEND<< . We're honored to work with our close friends at @creaturecomfortsbeer once again this year to develop a custom blend for their seasonal Koko Buni milk porter. The Koko Buni milk porter combines toasted coconut, vanilla bean, cacao nibs, and 1000 Faces’ coffee, for a rich and ridiculously delicious winter seasonal beer. We love to have fun with this coffee! It’s wildly sweet, complex, and fruit-driven. We’re sticking with the rubric we decided upon a few years ago - an all Ethiopia blend of multiple processes. The 2019 Koko Buni Blend is composed of ⅔ Dimtu Tero and ⅓ Duromina. The Dimtu Tero leads the way here, giving it a creamy body and burst of fresh berry flavors. Duromina adds both an additional layer of brown sugar sweetness and a touch of citrus acidity that makes Koko Buni Blend really shine. We’re tasting: cherry, raspberry, peach, florals, hops, vanilla, brown sugar. . Available online, at our roastery, our farmers markets, and for the first time ever, through our wholesale program. Enjoy! . #1000facescoffee #resistbadcoffee #makethemundanesacred at 1000 Faces Coffee

BISCUITS & COFFEE LOVE! This Sunday from 10am to 3pm! What is B&CL? It's a fundraiser series by 1000 Faces Coffee & @thefarmcart. Just eat a delicious biscuit and drink some tasty coffee to support important work in our community. Held at 1000 Faces once per month on select Sundays from 10am to 3pm. In 2018, 10% of proceeds go to the Get Comfortable campaign created by @creaturecomfortsbeer. The mission of the Get Comfortable campaign is to become a unifying anchor in the business community to drive awareness, increase engagement, and provide support for nonprofits combating the Athens community’s greatest needs as it relates to living comfortably. In Athens-Clarke County where one in five people are food-insecure and the poverty rate is 36.6% – nearly twice the state poverty rate of 18.4% – the campaign has traditionally focused on hunger, homelessness, and poverty. Through a rigorous vetting process as well as the direction of an advisory committee of community stakeholders, the campaign selected 6 organizations to highlight throughout the season & receive funding when the program wraps in November 2018. The following nonprofits were chosen as the 2018 Get Comfortable partners: Advantage Behavioral Health, Athens Area Homeless Shelter, Athens Community Council on Aging, The Ark, Chosen For Life, & Mercy Health Center. #1000facescoffee #biscuitsandcoffeelove #getcomfortable #resistbadcoffee #makethemundanesacred at 1000 Faces Coffee

. >>NEW COFFEE<< . . >>HUNAPU<< . In addition to being the indigenous Mayan name for Volcán de Agua, Hunapu refers to a collective of 200 - 300 smallholder farmers based just outside of Antigua with farms along the slopes of this volcano. Our offering is comprised of our two favorite day lots that we selected when visiting Beneficio Bella Vista during the harvest in March of 2018. Lot compilation here works much like it does in most areas of Ethiopia - the farms are quite small (especially compared to the large estates that are more common in Guatemala) and cherries are delivered each day during the harvest season to the mill. Depending on the day, the bulk of the cherries will be from different areas and different growers from around this region, which is why Bella Vista keeps each day separate and allows us to select our favorites. We’ve learned that we prefer these Hunapu coffees from the East side of the Volcano because of the type of sun the plants receive - mostly, gentle morning sun. Bella Vista buys cherry from farms on the other side of the Volcano to the West as well, but the plants are exposed the much hotter afternoon sun. These cooler average temperatures on the eastern-facing Hunapu farms equate to slower plant growth, which means extended time for the seeds to absorb nutrients from the plants. To us, this means coffees with higher sweetness and concentration of flavors. All processing for Hunapu coffees - depulping, sorting, drying (both on patios and raised beds), more sorting, dry milling, more sorting, bagging and preparation for export - takes place at Luis Pedro Zelaya Zamora’s (LPZZ) family mill - Beneficio Bella Vista - where quality control is kept under the close watch of Don Luis and his team of seasoned professionals. LPZZ is somewhat of a celebrity in the world of Guatemalan coffee; he is the fourth generation of his family to be working in the coffee business. For many years, the main focus was straightforward commercial coffee production and export. Continued in the comments below! at Antigua, Sacatepequez, Guatemala

BREW SCHOOL -- > tomorrow at 5:30pm! Our eleventh Brew School of 2018 is all about the many applications of coffee outside of just brewing it. We'll cover the qualities of beans as ingredients that are important to consider if you’re feeling experimental at home. We will make a few desserts step-by-step with coffee substitutions and sample a variety of other treats. Snacks and coffee will be provided free of charge, just be sure to reserve your spot via the link in our bio! #BrewSchool #1000facescoffee #makethemundanesacred #resistbadcoffee 2nd photo by @creaturecomfortsbeer 4th photo by @transylvanian_alex 5th photo by @bonnieandbud at 1000 Faces Coffee

A delicious partnership! Love us some Mandy & Steve and all their goodies! Give their Chai a try next time you order a drink at the cafe. #Repost @3porchfarm ・・・ 3 Porch Chai, have you had it yet ?! This product came about a little differently than our others. Little known fact: I love tea ! Especially a good chai ! Problem I found was that I could never find one that I just really loved. If premixed, it was way too sweet. If it came in loose tea form, it was way too weak. As soon as we got our certified kitchen up and going I vowed to make a blend that I knew I would love. Unfortunately we can’t grow many of the spices needed to make the blend I wanted so we do order in the organic ingredients we can’t produce. Y’all, it’s good ! It does take about 7 minutes to prepare a cup but trust me it’s worth it. Each bag comes with an instruction card to tell you how to make it just right. And Athens, you can even get it premade, hot or cold, @buvez_athens and @1000facescoffee . Link in profile if ya want some . #3porchchai #valueadded #smallbusinesssaturday at 1000 Faces Coffee

At this same time next week, we'll be releasing the first of our selections from the 2018 harvest in the Antigua Valley of Guatemala. Our first release is called Hunapu. The Hunapu producers grow coffee on the Volcan de Agua side (sunnier) and the Volcan de Fuego side (more shade, with some yellow Bourbon) of the Antigua Valley in the stunning highlands of central Guatemala. Outside of being the Mayan name for Volcan de Agua, Hunapu refers to around 250-350 small producers who have chosen this name as their brand. The varieties they grow are Bourbon, Caturra, and Catuaí. Most of these small producers have gotten involved in the process of separating lots and that has allowed them to improve the quality of their coffees. They also have been working hard on improving their agricultural skills, focusing on plant nutrition, tissue management, and pest/disease control when necessary. Coffees from the Hunapu producers are processed for export at the Bella Vista Mill, under the expertise and management of Luis Pedro Zelaya Zamora and team. #1000facescoffee #makethemundanesacred #resistbadcoffee at Antigua Guatemala, Sacatepequez
