I still remember, when I was a young boy, my teacher pointing to three bushes and saying, "did you know three is a very special number ..." He was talking about the aesthetic context, but I remember thinking to myself, "is that why God is three in one?"
Can there be good without evil? We often think that good is the absence of evil, but it's the opposite that's true. If God is the source of good, then evil is simply the absence of God. Interesting how, by removing God from the equation and replacing him with our own definition of good, good cannot exist without evil. We will never be free.

We've all witnessed how good company can enable a person to experience laughter and joy in the face of sorrow, so how much more is there for the one in the company of God?

God's way or our way.
Imagine being created and told what is good and what is evil. Would you know anything else? No. God would be the embodiment of good itself and anything apart from Him would be evil.
We would have no choice but to do what He said. But imagine he gave us a choice. Imagine he told us there was a way we could become judges of good and evil ourselves, but that if we chose this path, we would become separated from Him because our idea of good would no longer be his idea. Our way would not be His way. That, ultimately, our way would lead to death.
Imagine that we chose this way despite His warning. In doing so, we have become evil in His eyes, for we have willingly departed from Him.
The Bible says the first thing that came after was that Adam and Eve realised their nakedness. They felt shame and hid. This is the first ever instance of how what God says is good seems counterintuitive to us. To love our enemies, to honour God with our sexuality, His judgement on people in the Bible, it all seems so counterintuitive because it is. To choose his way would require total submission and trust that He is God and His way is higher than ours.
For us, this is the hardest thing to do. It's not facts or evidence that changes the heart. Many think it is, but it isn't. I've seen people who had no idea about Jesus give their lives to Him. No amount of facts or evidence could do that. It took an experience with Jesus to change their heart. Are we open to experience Him? at Christchurch, New Zealand
Before Jesus was betrayed, he prayed.
“My Father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.” Matthew 26:39
He went back to his disciples and found them sleeping when he had just asked them to keep watch.
Then Judas came and Jesus was betrayed.
