The Elancourt Music School is a weighty two-story structure clad in hand-made #bricks that stagger to create a series of apertures to illuminate interior spaces. Cork Screw House, a three-story residential commission in a Berlin suburb designed by rundzwei Architekten, is clad and roofed with one of the most renewable tree-derived materials: #cork. Read more on at Berlin, Germany


For #TED 2019, the Cambridge, Massachusetts–based firm Matter Design and CEMEX Global R&D have used the event to unveil the fruits of their #concrete research. Walking Assembly is a network of playfully rocking solid concrete masses inspired by a historical question. How did ancient peoples move the Moai of Easter Island? One theory is that these massive statues were designed to be “walked,” or gradually “rocked,” into place. Read more on at Cambridge, Massachusetts


The Xiqu Cultural Center was developed as a regional hub for traditional Chinese 3opera. The project, designed by Vancouver and Hong Kong–based architecture firm Revery Architecture, was inspired by the diaphanous 3theater curtains. About 13,000 curved 3aluminum fins, arranged as a series of waves, clad all of the structure’s elevations. Read more on at Hong Kong


Located on the northern border of Downtown Phoenix, Arizona, sits a new medical research building for the University of Arizona. The 10-story Phoenix Biomedical Sciences Partnership Building (BSPB), designed by CO Architects, joins their preexisting structure on the Biomedical Campus to combine lecture halls, research facilities, and public functions. The design of the building’s facade is intended to blend into the #Arizona desert landscape with folded and perforated #copper panels. Read more on at Phoenix, Arizona


So, what do people think of the 15-story Vessel? The first phase of Manhattan’s $25 billion #HudsonYards development opened to the public on March 15, and with the embargos lifted and first impressions filed, a wide variety of critics have put pen to paper on their #Vessel thoughts. The $150 million, 150-foot-tall occupiable sculpture is the centerpiece of Hudson Yards’ first phase and sits at the heart of a Nelson Byrd Woltz–designed plaza. 1100 Architect’s East Side Lofts is located in the Osthafen, or East Harbor district, of Frankfurt, Germany. Heavily damaged during World War II, the district is composed of historical vestiges and contemporary infill. The East Side Lofts effectively combines the two with a #restoration of the landmarked Lencoryt Building and a six-story addition clad in #fibercement boards. Read more on at Frankfurt, Germany


The @ateliersjeannouvel -designed National Museum of #Qatar @nmoqatar opened to the public today in #Doha #Qatar. The design of the building was inspired by desert rose rock formations, which can be found in the desert surrounding the city. Built over an eight year period, the museum is one of many high profile projects being built in Qatar 🇶🇦. Other projects by the likes of @unstudio_architecture and #Isozaki dot the city. This is Jean Nouvel's second major project in Doha. at National Museum of Qatar

With an imposing set of towers rising from a tabula rasa-like setting, one could at first mistake Bernard Tschumi Architects’s Tianjin Binhai Exploratorium as a contemporary take on medieval fortifications. The museum houses artifacts from Tianjin’s heavy industrial past and displays of large-scale contemporary technology. The formidable complex is clad in thousands of perforated copper-colored #aluminum panels studded with #oculi for interior #lighting. Read more on at Tianjin, China


The Bell Labs Holmdel Complex, completed by Eero Saarinen in 1962, is a sprawling former research building clad in reflective #glass and topped with a quarter-mile-long roof. Much of the interior is still under a painstaking conversion designed by @alexandergorlinarchitects into contemporary tech-focused office space.The atrium #skylight consists of 3,200 panes of glass subjected to 24 different glazings and assembled in a series of ridges.
