“I got the birth I wanted; the non medicated birth, lights off, time alone with our baby afterwards, delayed cutting of the cord. They said my birth took 6hrs start to finish but to me it felt like 1. I remember just after Melody was born saying I could do that again, no worries. I felt so empowered, I was able to birth without any fear! “

Your cervix is not a crystal ball.
Dilation cannot tell you when you will have your baby.
A dear friend of mine sat at 8cm dilated for 4 weeks before she went into labour.
We now know that dilation does not happen at 1 cm per hour! My friends story proves that!
Your cervix has to do so much more than just dilate ♥️
Give yourself, your baby, your body and your birth the time it needs to bring your tiny one earthside.
Trust the process, Mama xxx

Happy World Breastfeeding Week!
I’ve been a little quiet lately as all the babies have wanted to come Earthside!
So to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week I’m
showing you a small part of my MILK SHARING journey, something that isn’t as discussed as it should be!
These four photos show
1) A friend feeding my baby in Bali while I felt ill and needed time to rest (The wonderful Ros from Pinay Doulas Collective!)
2) A friend of mine feeding my baby and her baby at the same time
3) Me feeding my baby and a friends baby at the same time
4) Me feeding my toddler and my friends baby at the same time.
In lots of cultures when we to children of different bloodlines share the same milk they become “milk sisters/brothers/siblings” and I’m proud to say that my two children have a combined total of 4 milk siblings!
Milk sharing is NORMAL.
It’s not weird or gross.
It’s a huge part of history and one that I hold dear to my heart and help to live on now ❤️
Happy World Breastfeeding Week ❤️

Expecting a sibling for the little one you have already?
Here are just a couple of the books I have in my library which helps big brothers and sisters understand all about pregnancy, labour and birth.
“Hello Baby” is a special favourite of mine and even shows Mama labouring upright, breastfeeding and the midwife checking the placenta!
So special! at Ballarat, Victoria
With my heart in my throat (as well as on my sleeve!), I post this..... Again.
Here I am. In all of my freshly birthed glory.
This is me seconds after birthing my second baby into my own hands, on my own terms.
Why do I share this?
I want you to know that *this* - this look on my face - that this look is possible No Matter What Kind Of Birth You Choose.
Wonder, amazement, shock, surprise, love, happiness, awe, excitement.....
These feelings are possible in birth!
Birth and Trauma, or Fear, do not automatically go hand in hand. I WANT YOU TO SEE THAT.
See the look on my face and KNOW that!
My sweet, sweet girl was born under unique circumstances..... Posterior and 'en caul', aka in her "bag of waters".
The short version of her birth story goes like this-
Weeks upon weeks of prodromal labour. A night of niggles, a day of niggles.... Moaning and groaning as I bake Banana Bread.... Called my Doula... Doula came... "Everyone go away! I want to be alone!"... Labouring alone... In the bath... Baby flipped posterior (yowch!!!).... Stomping in the hallway.... Losing my sh*t.... Getting my sh*t back together (Thanks to my Doula!).... Back in the bath.... Jumping out of bath, crossing the hall.. Hand between my legs... What's that?! Bubble of waters. Head. Body. SPLASH! Thunk!
In that moment - *this moment* - I have turned to my Doula and she captured the moment of a lifetime.... Me expressing my mix of emotions and my sweet husband adoring his ladies..... Vernix, cord, milk...
My heart is shown here... My soul is too.
So, here I am in all of my freshly birthed glory.
I pass that glory on to all of you with births ahead X ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(Yup, Facebook made me censor this pic. And you can imagine how I feel about that!
Also because this photo shows my soul PLEASE do not steal, crop or remove my logo.
Tag my page if you wish to share as I'd love for others to know this is possible!) at Ballarat, Victoria

"But when will they open their eyes, mama?" “Oh my boys, you will have the rest of your lives, to look into their eyes." 💗 .
I am always moved by Elliana Allon’s work. What were some things your kids said when meeting their siblings?
Is there anything more adorable that a rolley poley baby in a milk bath?!

Ballarat Birth Support is soon undergoing a rebrand.
Because I’m going GLOBAL, baby!
Why am I booked out in November and December because I will be off in England being Doula and Photographer to one fantastic family who requested my presence for their birth!
And then on to Morocco in July!
My heart has called for me to go and I’m finally following the call.
I will be going over to learn the ancient traditions of caring for women after they birth their children and I CAN NOT WAIT to bring this wisdom home for YOU!
So this rebrand MUST happen because Ballarat Birth Support can only serve Ballarat, but ‘Sandy Tai, International Birth Doula, Educator and Photographer’ can serve the world!
And I intend to!
BRING IT ON!
Should you hire a birth photographer?

💫5X Nuchal Cords💫
💫1 True Knot💫
💫1 Normal Birth💫
Research based on 182,492 births, wielding statistical power to uncover even mild negative associations, showed that both single and multiple nuchal cords at the time of delivery are not associated with adverse perinatal outcomes. Nuchal cords are associated with higher birth weights and lower cesarean section rates than births without nuchal cords. Present technology cannot reliably predict the presence of a nuchal cord, tell whether a nuchal cord is tight, or determine anything regarding the likelihood of hypoxia, IUGR or stillbirth. Intervention for the supposed presence of single or multiple loops of nuchal cord or a true knot, suspected by ultrasound prenatally, is unjustified because diagnosis by ultrasound is unreliable and intervention involves greater risk to the baby than the nuchal cord. Since nuchal cords occur at rates of 30-34% at 40 weeks and are not associated with adverse perinatal outcomes, practitioners and women should consider their presence reassuring and normal. Given the common occurrence of nuchal cords and its very high association with a favorable outcome, scanning for nuchal cords appears to have no efficacy. Efforts to define and diagnose new antepartum "problems" continue to outstrip our ability to improve outcomes by diagnosing and "treating" newly defined problems.
