Remember this? Today nine years ago, Captain Sullenberger ditched his A320 into the Hudson River after a bird strike that damaged both engines. It was like miracle, all 155 people onboard survived. Thanks to the abilities and skill of Captain Sullenberger and F/O Skiles, this is one of the most succesful ditchings ever and a true miracle. Have you already seen the movie "Sully"?

R.I.P. Astronaut John Young. John Watts Young (September 24, 1930 – January 5, 2018) was an American astronaut, naval officer and aviator, test pilot, and aeronautical engineer, who became the ninth person to walk on the Moon as Commander of the Apollo 16 mission in 1972. Young enjoyed the longest career of any astronaut, becoming the first person to make six space flights over the course of 42 years of active NASA service, and is the only person to have piloted, and been commander of, four different classes of spacecraft: Gemini, the Apollo Command/Service Module, the Apollo Lunar Module, and the Space Shuttle. In 1965, Young flew on the first manned Gemini mission, and commanded another Gemini mission the next year. In 1969, he became the first person to orbit the Moon alone during Apollo 10. He drove the Lunar Roving Vehicle on the Moon's surface during Apollo 16, and is one of only three people to have flown to the Moon twice. He also commanded two Space Shuttle flights, including its first launch in 1981, and served as Chief of the Astronaut Office from 1974–1987. Young retired from NASA in 2004. He died on January 5, 2018. #nasa #johnyoung #apollo #Gemini #astronaut #spaceshuttle #rip

On Christmas Eve in 1968, Apollo 8 - the first manned mission to the Moon, entered lunar orbit. That evening, the astronauts Commander Frank Borman (left), Command Module Pilot Jim Lovell (right) and Lunar Module Pilot William Anders (middle) held a live broadcast from lunar orbit, in which they showed pictures of the Earth and Moon as seen from their spacecraft. They ended the broadcast with the crew taking turns reading from the book of Genesis. During a broadcast that night, pilot Jim Lovell said "The vast loneliness is awe-inspiring and it makes you realizejust what you have back there on Earth." After circling the Moon 10 times on Christmas Eve, it was time to come home. On Christmas morning, mission control waited anxiously for word that Apollo 8's engine burn to leave lunar orbit had worked. They soon got confirmation when Lovell radioed, "Roger, please be informed there is a Santa Claus." The crew splashed down in the Pacific on December 27. A lunar landing was still months away, but for the first time ever, humans from Earth had visited the Moon and returned home safely.
