The CrossFit Open is a 5-week grind. You're probably feeling the physical and psychological at this point, 4 weeks in. Which means you likely need a little extra recovery in your life, so join us for: RECOVERY CLASS // Held every Thursday at 6:30pm, this weekly 45-min class focuses on recovery using a variety of techniques to increase your range of motion, decrease soreness, and help prevent any potential injuries. The class combines stretching, foam rolling, ball rolling, and range of motion drills to target hard-to-reach areas that stretching just won’t hit. Our teacher for this class, @michaelblackrolfing, is an experienced bodywork specialist (and CrossFitter) with years of yoga and Rolfing under his belt. Consider joining us for some really critical self-care! Self-care is as much mental as it is physical. On the cusp of the 19.4 announcement, we're reminded of intent. That every workout, Open or otherwise, has an intended stimulus. Going Rx may mean you miss the intent of the workout. Something to think about. #Repost @cspealler ・・・ After owning an affiliate for nearly 12 years, teaching over 300 seminars, and helping countless people online and via email it’s a good question. • What’s “RX” in my mind? It’s maintaining the stimulus of the workout. That means meeting a goal time or rounds, finding the balance of technique and intensity, and training that has longevity. • I haven’t even used the term in our gym @crossfitparkcity for years. With @iconathlete I call it “modifying” not “scaling” to avoid negative connotations. Get over the weights, reps, and off the high horse. Find the intended stimulus, meet it, and continually work to improve. Our very own all-star coach Kendall Scott (@khscott11) WON HIS GROUP at the USAW University Nationals Weightlifting Competition this past weekend! Kendall went 4 for 6 with a total of 245kg (a 10kg meet PR), and won the 89kg C-group. His best snatch was 107kg/235lbs and his best clean & jerk was 138kg/304lbs. Such a good performance! We're really into these wise words from a wise man during Open season, or any season: . "77 reps less than 16.2. And I’m happy with it... . I can't tell you the number of times I get to be on the receiving end the conversation of "I haven't PRd in a while." Or "I did worse than last time." Or yes, “I suck.” . Let me tell you something: you are NOT defined by your results. You are NOT defined by your betterment in something. You are NOT defined by being "worse." . The issue I have is when someone I talk with is putting the result of a workout, a lift, a movement as the definition of success, progress or winning. Bullsh!t. . This is a fools game because your happiness, your thought of progress and your definition of improvement will then be defined by a stupid barbell, rep count or clock. . Back to being happy... I can re-frame this moment when I did supposedly "worse" or "fell back" on my fitness. . Something I encourage you to do if you think this often (and I won't lie, I sometimes do) is to list all the things you have right now. Here is mine: 1. I am healthy. 2. I am injury free. 3. I am training for life, not sport. I can't expect competition-Tyler results. 4. It's the best I have right now. 5. I am strong. 6. I am capable of quality movement without restriction. 7. I don't have a disease. 8. I have a gym community that supports me. 9. I have a family that loves me regardless of "daddy didn't get as many reps as 3 years ago." . You get the point. . Take a win. Reframe your mindset. Don't put your identity in your results. Have you heard about our 2019 CrossFit Kids program? Starts on May 21st and runs for eleven weeks through August 3rd. Classes are every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. TWO AGE GROUPS: -Ages 5 to 9 will enjoy 45min classes at 9:45am on Tuesdays and Thursdays and 11:15am on Saturdays. - Ages 10 to 15 will enjoy 60min classes at 10:30am on Tuesdays and Thursdays and at Noon on Saturdays. COST: $80 Per Month Unlimited $60 For a 5 Class Pass $15 For a Single Drop-in Class ABOUT: CrossFit Kids is a method of teaching CrossFit to children of all ages. Based on the principle of Mechanics, Consistency, and then Intensity, CrossFit Kids emphasizes good movement throughout childhood and adolescence. Consistently good mechanics translate to physical literacy, enhanced sports performance and fewer sports injuries for kids. Not only that, a vast body of research indicates that exercise is beneficial to cognitive function, which means consistent adherence to the program can have a positive impact on children’s academic achievement. CrossFit Kids is meant to be BIG fun for all ages. Broad-Inclusive-General fun. Fun means we provide an active alternative to sedentary pursuits, which means less childhood obesity and all-around better health for our children.
