Some of my supplements for my impending 6-week cut: CLA (6000mg), Choline Bitartrate (2200 mg), and Acetyl L-Carnitine (1500 mg). Among other benefits, these three are supposed to help with fat oxidation (using fat as a fuel source) and the reason they can be stacked, or used in conjunction, is because they function differently. If you want specifics, head over to canadianprotein.com and read the “How Does It Work” and “What Are The Main Benefits” sections. Now, while supplementing is important it has to be layered on top of a solid foundation of nutrition, training, sleep, hydration, and stress management. Taking these supplements while drinking 4 beers a night and operating on 5 hours of sleep will not help you achieve your goals. Make sure all of your ducks are in a row before you start supplementing. That being said there are a few supplements that even beginners could and should be taking: Whey Protein Isolate, Creatine, Magnesium, Vitamin D, and a high quality multi-Vitamin. There are others of course but that’s a good start. Only had 45 mins between clients this morning to get my 1st workout in so I kept it simple and did a GVT superset with bis and tris. Finished in just over 10 minutes and the pump was insane! Today’s quad assault! Walking lunges (weighed vest), Hack squats, and leg extensions. Spent the day at @bang_fitness learning from @coachbott. The seminar was "Think Like A Scientist; Act Like A Coach" and I was definitely a bit out of my depth. I have always wanted to be an S&C Coach but I know so little about the 'C' side of things which is probably why I've focused so much more of my time and energy on the 'S' side. However, being one dimensional isn't the path to growth. Snippets from this morning's chest and back workout. I'm having a "bad body day" (even though I KNEW I'd gain weight during this hypertrophy phase) but I'm feeling really soft. A quick note about body dysmorphia: I have always felt fat, even when I was a child, and it's difficult to shake that. This is the irony about being what most would consider a "gym rat": I suspect the average person who doesn't work out or only works out occasionally has a better body image. And this isn't to say they *shouldn't*, I just find it interesting that I will always default to feeling like the fat kid at the swimming pool who wants to keep his T-shirt on. Part of today's first arm workout. I tend to do tri-sets or giant sets for one workout and then supersets for the other. Today's morning tricep giant set: JM Press, dual-handle reverse-grip pressdowns, dips, leaning cable overhead extension followed by some work on my medial bicep head on my left arm (pretty large bi-lateral discrepancy that I'm working on). Went to the Guillermo del Toro "At Home With Monsters" exhibit at the @agotoronto yesterday. It was *way* too crowded to take it all in so make sure you go at off-peak times. Re-watched "Pan's Labyrinth" after and it was cool to see pre-production designs and props from the movie beforehand. If you go, there's a piece that houses 4 books that have been scanned - definitely worth spending some time there. 🤷🏼‍♂️It's easy during the holidays to get off track and gain a few pounds. Family gatherings, extra servings of buttery mashed potatoes with gravy, and, of course, mom's warm pumpkin pie! 🎃 Try these quick and easy Protein Pumpkin Mini-Tarts instead of a store bought Pie! Here's what you'll need: Tenderflake mini-tart shells, 4 scoops of Vanilla Micellar Casein Powder, 1 can of 100% pure pumpkin purée, 1/2 cup pitted dates, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and pumpkin pie spice. 💫In a blender, combine 8oz water with 2 scoops Casein, 1 can pumpkin purée, 1/2 cup dates, and 1/2 teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice. Blend until smooth and then place in a container in the fridge to set (this will make about 32 servings). 🥛Next, combine 16oz water along with 4 scoops Casein, a few drops of vanilla extract, and a 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon and blend until the mixture thickens. Place in a container in the fridge to set. ⌚️Let both the filling and the "whipped cream" set for four hours. ⏲Bake the mini-tarts and set aside to cool. Add the pumpkin filling, then add the whipped casein topping (you can whip it with a hand mixer to make it fluffier). Sprinkle a pinch of pumpkin pie spice on top and voila! A delicious, low-calorie alternative to a store bought pie! 👵🏼No guarantees its better than mom's but nothing's better than not tipping the scales on Monday! 🔥 If you prefer to serve them warm, add the filling and let them set for a few more hours before warming them.
