#transformationtuesday I usually hate progress pics in the beginning of prep, but I think they are a great motivational tool to stay the course. Bored of the standard push up? While I love push ups and include them in every chest workout, I like to challenge myself and add variety to increase the intensity. Some of my favorite push up variations include: - Single leg push up (as pictured) - Incline/decline push ups. - Plyo push ups. - Bosu Push ups Just a few variations that are fun to try!!! #tbt to all those pre-sunrise workouts in our Nation’s Capitol. From running the stairs at the Nats stadium to running our 6 mile loop around the monuments, such good memories. Some folks look at my husband and I like we’re crazy when we tell them we get up at 330 just so we can train. But, to me, there is no better time than early morning. Bench Squats In an effort to retrain my body to squat correctly after a lower back injury, I use the Bench Squats. In the past, I squatted too deep for my body/flexibility and had way too much anterior pelvic tilt when squatting down. This squatting method ensures that I don’t go as deep and that I maintain correct posture, thereby eliminating the excessive anterior tilt that was causing excessive strain on my lower back. Some helpful tips: - Use a bench that allows you to squat parallel to the deck - Tap the bench with your glutes, don’t sit. - Use strength, not momentum to come up. - Brace your core and keep the shoulders back and come straight up. While I am using this to rehabilitate my lower back until I am cleared to free squat, these can be used in anyone’s workout. A great addition to a safe and effective leg workout.
