Buckfastleigh🌌 . Just off the A38 on the edge of Dartmoor National park Buckfastleigh is home to Tomb of Squire Richard Cabell and is believed to be the inspiration for the wicked Hugo Baskerville, one of the characters in Conan Doyle's novel The Hound Of the Baskervilles. Buckland In The Moor has to be one of the most attractive chocolate box villages in Devon. Those thatched cottages are like something out of a fairy tale, couple it with an autumn pallette 🎨 of colour and it's easy to get something special. . If you'd like to take a picturesque autumn image like this my advice to you is not to venture out on a bright blue sky days, save that for walks 👫 on the beach🏖️☀️. We had a much needed Sunday night away in beautiful Lynton which is less than an hour from Lemons Farm. We spent Monday exploring the Valley of Rocks, took the funicular down to Lynmouth and sat by a roaring fire in the Ancient Mariner pub. Devon is such a beautiful place to be in autumn 🍁 when all the summer crowds have headed home. Thatching is an old craft whereby the roof is built using dry vegetation such as Straw, water reed, sedge rushes palm leaves and heather. This ancient craft still carries on to this day keeping these scrumptious looking cottages alive and looking tippity top for us and the lucky owners to appreciate our English Heritage . I fist saw this cottage last year at South Milton, Devon. At the time the owners were having it re-thatched. So I had a little thatching lesson while there and made a note to return and photograph it.
