#Repost @worldanimalnews It was an eventful Sunday morning for New Jersey Animal Control Officer Robert Lagonera, WAN spoke with Mr. Lagonera earlier today about what transpired after he responded to a 3:15am call yesterday morning regarding a deceased doe that was hit by a car. When Mr. Lagonera arrived at the scene, he was surprised to find Officer Jim Vernon from the Washington Township Police Department holding a “bloodied fawn” that he delivered during a heroic emergency C-section on the mother.- - Lagonera, who is responsible for nine townships in the area, explained that he began vigorously rubbing the fawn’s chest to get its lungs working before taking the baby home to dry it off and keep it warm until he could transfer it to an appropriate facility for veterinary care.- - When WAN called the clinic to find out the status of the fawn, the animal practice’s manager Nancy Hreha told us that she had a “very happy” update!- - Hreha told WAN that the baby deer was “doing terrific” and was currently preparing to be transported to Antler Ridge which will take over to care for the fawn. When she weighs 25 pounds, she will most likely be released back into the wild. 🙏💛🦌- - WAN commends Lagonera and his tireless work in saving wildlife, and applauds Police Officer Vernon, the doctors and staff at Animal Clinic of Morris Plains, Antler Ridge Wildlife Sanctuary, and all of the compassionate people who help save the lives of innocent animals everywhere. - READ MORE: 🌍👉www.WorldAnimalNews.com @worldanimalnews @peace_4animals

#Repost @denise13dd 🤬A Frontier Airlines passenger has been accused of punching a #servicedog and then a pregnant woman on a flight to Florida, according to Orlando media reports. WESH TV of Orlando reports the incident occurred Thursday evening on a flight from Colorado Springs to Orlando. Citing an incident report from the Orlando Police Department, WESH says the fracas involved a deaf couple travel traveling with a service dog, a #GreatDane named Zariel. The woman is 20 weeks pregnant. In its report, WESH says: “As the plane descended a 59-year-old man's wife complained of being allergic to dogs. When the plane landed and taxied to the gate, the dog woke up and stood up. Timothy Manley then punched the dog with a closed fist, causing it to yelp, the report said.” “The couple began yelling at the man, who police said reacted by getting into the man’s face. At some point, the man punched the pregnant woman in the stomach.” Manley was upset that the dog “took up more space than (he) felt it deserved," the Orlando Sentinel added, also citing the police report. The altercation between the parties continued into the Orlando airport terminal, with WESH showing footage of a man running through a gate area while voices can be heard yelling for someone to call the police. The woman’s boyfriend tackled the man accused the attack and held him pinned to the ground until police arrived, according to WESH. It was not immediately clear what charges the man might face, though the case has been turned over to the FBI since it began on an aircraft. Frontier Airlines confirmed that an incident had occurred on the flight. “The safety and security of our passengers is our top priority at Frontier,” spokesman Richard Oliver said to USA TODAY “Upon deplaning flight 1752 from Colorado Springs to Orlando, there was a confrontation between passengers. “Police were immediately notified to aid in deescalating the situation," he added. Neither the couple nor Manley accepted medical treatment, though the Sentinel writes "the woman said she wants to prosecute and is willing to testify on court." #selfishpeople #heartless #respectoneanother #theworlddoesntrevolvearoundyou #noexcuse #

Celebrities support NGO’s efforts to rescue 6-year-old from illegal captivity. _ Bollywood industry and cricketers have come together to support the rescue of Suman, a 6-year-old baby elephant allegedly being held illegally in Jaipur. @wildlifesos , an India-based wildlife conservation charity, has launched a global campaign to raise awareness on illegal elephant trafficking in India and to bring attention to Suman’s plight. _ Abuse alleged “Suman’s owners have isolated her from her family and are keeping her chained in a small, dank room for ‘training’ using brutal techniques — in effect, day-by-day, her spirit is being broken. Suman is the biological sister of 8-year-old Peanut, who was rescued from the Moonlight Circus by Wildlife SOS in 2015. Currently, their father, the male tusker Bijli, is being rented out in festivals, weddings and processions, and mother Chanda is used for rides at the Amer Fort in Jaipur as well as for breeding,” noted a release issued by Wildlife SOS. _ Within 72 hours of the launch of the campaign, the @wildlifesos -run petition garnered over 50,000 signatories. _ Actor Sidharth Malhotra, who recently visited the the NGO’s Elephant Conservation and Care Centre in Mathura, tweeted: “Suman, a 6-year-old baby elephant, was torn away from her family and is being abused and held illegally in captivity in Jaipur! This is unacceptable and inhuman.” Other Bollywood A-list celebrities such as Karan Johar, Tiger Shroff, Vivek Oberoi, Pulkit Samrat, Anushka Manchanda, Ramona Arena and Harshvardhan Rane joined in by posting on their respective social media accounts. Indian cricketers Yusuf Pathan, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Harbajan Singh and wife Geeta Basra, also supported the Wildlife SOS campaign. #Repost @careforwild UPDATE ON INJURED MONTH OLD CALF: After 24 hours in the Intensive Care Unit at #CareforWildRhinoSanctuary, the one month old calf is stable and resting. He is drinking milk regularly and is on a drip to ensure he is hydrated. His wounds are severe, and we are currently unsure about the lasting effects of the physical and emotional trauma that this very small baby has been through. Dr Nolene du Plessis came to stitch the deep machete wound on his back to encourage healing, and we cannot thank her enough for responding so quickly to come and help him. We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who donated and bought bags of Denkavit milk powder for this tiny baby. We are still in desperate need of medical supples while we treat and clean his wounds. We are currently in need of a large amount of gauze pads, cotton wool, bandages, and elastoplast. Six Borneo pygmy elephants have been found dead in Malaysian palm oil plantations in recent weeks, officials said Monday, the latest of the endangered creatures to perish as their rainforest habitat is devastated. _ The carcasses of the elephants, aged between one and 37, were discovered at different locations in Sabah state on Borneo island, local wildlife department director Augustine Tuuga told AFP. _ "We are currently conducting tests on their internal organs," he said, adding the carcasses did not have any signs of gunshot wounds. _ Tuuga said the elephants could have accidently consumed fertiliser in the palm oil plantations, which could have poisoned them. _ The Star newspaper, citing conservationists, said the creatures might have drunk from poisoned watering holes. _ There are about 2,000 pygmy elephants, the smallest type of elephant in Asia, in the wild. Late last year three were killed by poachers. _ In 2013 14 pygmy elephants were found dead in Sabah and were thought to have been poisoned. _ They are threatened by widespread logging of their natural habitat to make way for lucrative palm oil plantations, and are targeted by poachers as their ivory fetches a high price on the black market. _ The pygmy elephants are baby-faced with oversized ears, plump bellies and tails so long they sometimes drag on the ground as they walk. _ https://sg.news.yahoo.com/six-pygmy-elephants-found-dead-malaysian-borneo-062227792.html _ #malaysia #borneo #pygmyelephant #palmoil #boycottpalmoil #illegalwildlifecrime

#Repost @worldanimalnews Conservation officers in Utah are sharing a case that ensued from over-sharing on social media that resulted in the identification, apprehension, and conviction of a mysterious poacher who turned out to be a felon.- - According to an announcement by the Utah Department of Wildlife Resources, the remarkable story began on September 23, 2016, after a DWR conservation officer in Roosevelt, Utah, received a tip on the state’s Turn-in-a-Poacher phone hotline that indicated that a convicted felon, Kenneth (Kenny) Swenson Jr., was poaching cow elk and pheasants in nearby Duchesne County.- - Swenson was eventually arrested in December of 2016 and while he admitted to killing or assisting in the killing of three elk and two deer, he still refused to share where the antlers of the animals were located.- - Fortunately, despite Swenson not having a current address, after extensive investigation, which included the discovery of a hint-filled video posted on social media of an excavation in his backyard, wildlife investigators located Swenson’s residence through the use of Facebook and Google Earth. - DWR officers subsequently seized nearly 50 firearms, many of them stolen, from an RV on Swenson’s property. The officers were also able to locate one set of elk antlers from the elk killed in Duchesne County and two sets of deer antlers from deer killed in the Book Cliffs. Officers also seized two deer hides and all big game meat as evidence from the Swenson residence.- - Kenny Swenson pleaded guilty in Duchesne County to two counts of Destruction of Protected Wildlife, both third-degree felonies. He was ordered to pay $16,000.00 dollars to the Help Stop Poaching fund and sentenced to five years in prison for each charge. He also lost all his hunting privileges for 28 years. - We appreciate that DWR took the opportunity to remind people that if they witness suspicious activity or any wildlife violations in the state, to call the Utah Turn-in-a-Poacher (UTiP) Hotline at 📞800-662-3337 or submit a report online. Tips can be made confidentially.- - READ MORE: 🌍👉www.WorldAnimalNews.com @worldanimalnews @peace_4animals

Two South African hunting associations that embrace canned lion hunting have lost an appeal to retain their membership to Europe’s top hunting organisation, and have been thrown out of the International Council for Game and Wildlife Conservation for breach of policy. The decision was taken by the international council’s general assembly in Madrid. _ The expulsion of the Professional Hunters’ Association of South Africa (PHASA) and Confederation of Hunting Associations of South Africa (CHASA) is considered the strongest rejection of South Africa’s hunting policies, as well as of bodies which support canned lion or captive-bred lion shooting operations which are widely regarded as unethical and unsportsmanlike. _ READ MORE - https://africageographic.com/blog/sa-hunters-expelled-canned-lion-hunting/ _ #southafrica #cannedlionhunting #trophyhuntersarepsychopaths #trophyhuntingisnotasport #trophyhuntingismurder

AHMEDABAD: There's nothing quite like mother's love. More so in the lion kingdom where child rearing is almost exclusively a mother's domain with fathers known to resort to cannibalism. In such a scenario, the Bedhia Nar, a lion from Bedhia village of Gir-Somnath district in Gujarat, India, has rewritten parenting rules in the last abode of Asiatic lionsin the world. _ The lion christened as 'Bedhia Nar' has single-handedly raised his three cubs (presently aged two) just like a lioness would have. The cubs were barely three months old when the lioness got electrocuted while entering a farm. The pride did not have any other lioness. _ This rare departure in behaviour of the big cat was first noticed by naturalists Jalpan Rupapara and Purvesh Kacha in 2016. The naturalists, both medical practitioners, documented the lion's activities with 26 CCTV night vision cameras after seeking special permission from forest department for two years. The male lion not only hunted and fed the cubs, but also taught them to hunt and hid them while it was away. _ Lionesses usually hide cubs from lions _ "Never in our wildest imagination did we expect the lion will be so responsible for its cubs," says Rupapara. He adds, "Generally, lions do not actively participate in child rearing. In fact, a lioness would instinctively keep cubs away from the lion fearing harm as Big Cats are known to attack their litter if they suspect the cubs' paternity. But the Bedhia lion took over mothering the three month old cubs after the lioness died,” said Rupapara. _ Kacha, an anesthetist, underscores that the Bedhia lion even avoided mating for two years and never allowed a lioness to come near him purportedly fearing that the "step-mother" may harm his cubs. _ Read more - https://m.timesofindia.com/india/lion-mothers-cubs-after-lioness-dies/amp_articleshow/64143176.cms _ #india #asiaticlions #animalsofinstagram #lionsareamazing

_ US wildlife officers in Washington state have shot dead a cougar that killed a cyclist and mauled another. The two cyclists were in North Bend, about 30 miles (50km) from Seattle, when the attack occurred. The injured man used his mobile phone to seek help. The rider who died was dragged away by the cougar to its den, said King County sheriff spokesman Sergeant Ryan Abbot. Wildlife officials said it was only the second fatal cougar attack in Washington state in the past 100 years. Tracker dogs were used to locate the animal, hours after the attack. Cougars - also known as mountain lions - are the fourth largest cat species in the world, but they rarely attack humans. Wildlife officials however say more cougar attacks have been reported in the western US and Canada over the past 20 years than in the previous 80. Via BBC News
