FFS Gyms have teamed up with @thornshaw_scientific recruitment to organise a Table Quiz Fundraiser for @lauralynnhospice — The fundraiser will take place on Thursday 15th November at the @hrcdublin, Temple Bar from 7:30pm. — It promises to be a fantastic night of entertainment, live music, and raffle prizes! LauraLynn relies heavily on the generosity of others to help them to raise vital funds towards the €4.2m shortfall in running costs for the hospice each year. All proceeds on the night will go directly to LauraLynn, which will enable the hospice to continue to provide palliative and end-of-life care to short but precious lives — We really need your support! This week the guys talk through Rudds’ marathon that he ran over the weekend. He found out he could no longer run the Dublin Marathon as planned so took off solo last weekend with a few weather enforced and technical mishaps along the way! Mudras In the practice of Yoga, you are encouraged to use your body in many ways, hand mudras are an example. Different parts of our hands correspond with different parts of our body. By assuming a particular mudra, it places pressure on a specific section of the hand and directs energy to the corresponding body part. They are tools for drawing your attention inward. . . . Prayer Pose/Namaste mudra- the palms of both hands and the fingers are placed firmly together and are completely touching. The thumbs are pushed in against the sternum. Pose modifications – Triangle pose @fabbymizzoniyoga says “I meet people all the time who express a desire to try yoga, but believe they’re too inflexible. That’s like saying you’re too weak to start lifting weights. Learning to modify poses for your specific body and needs is empowering, and helps you gain the most from your yoga class.” Below is Triangle pose / Trikonasana. The second photo shows what can happen when students with tight shoulders attempt to straighten the top arm. The shoulder hunches and can causes neck strain. Taking yoga off the mat Yoga is more than the poses we do on the mat. A robust Yoga practice has the power to permeate all areas of your life. Over the coming weeks we’ll be sharing some practicable tips on taking your Yoga off the mat. Letting go of tension – How many times have you heard a teacher say “Let go of any tension…”? Probably a lot. So why is it useful in Yoga, and maybe in the rest of your life too? When we’re stressed or under strain we contract muscles unnecessarily e.g. clenching your jaw, hunching your shoulders. This feedback to our nervous system encourages the release of stress hormones, and the cycle continues.
