World Photo Organization @worldphotoorg selects us as one of the best 15 photo festivals to visit this summer! And they selected Sebastian Sardi’s photograph to be the representative. • Check: http://bit.ly/2ZbxGxF • Sebastian Sardi (SE) Black Diamond • Winner Open Call, Helsinki Photo Festival 2018 exhibited in the Nordic Village at the Swedish pavilion in Teurastamo • Sebastian Sardi (b. 1983) is a Swedish photographer based in both Malmö and Copenhagen. He started taking classes in analogue photography at the Peoples University in Stockholm at the age of 22. In 2009 he moved to Denmark to study photography at Fatamorgana, the Danish School of Art and Photography. In 2011 he received a Bachelor’s degree in Art History and Visual Studies. He published his first photo book A Cirkusz in 2012 and his newest book Black Diamond was released in spring 2019 by German Kehrer Verlag. Sardi has received several awards and grants and has exhibited his works in Sweden and abroad. • Sardi’s works regard the current coal industry issues including the impact on our environment. For the past decade, Sardi has been capturing major mining sites around the world, visiting mines in the world’s largest producers of coal such as China, Russia, Kazakhstan, and India. In the latter, he discovered Dhanbad - a place being cluttered up with a huge amount of coal fields and strip mines, commonly known as the "capital of coal". Everything there is cloaked with a solid overlay of fine dust, creating a truly apocalyptic landscape. The ground is burning, resulting in the overflow of toxic gases and smoke affecting a huge area. Workers are digging coal there almost with their bare hands and without any specific gear or even masks. • See more at: http://helsinkiphotofestival.com/sebastian-sardi/#helpho #helpho18 #helphoto #helphoto18 #helsinkiphotofestival #helsinkiphotofestival2018 #helsinki #suomi #finland #photographyfestival #contemporaryart #winneropencall #fineartphotography #photographer #photographylovers #photography #valokuvaaja #valokuvaus #finland_photolovers #thisisfinland #thisissweden #swedishphotographer #sebastiansardi #blackdiamond #dashedhopesexhibition #love at Helsinki Photo Festival

OPEN CALL!!! • Everyone from all over the world is invited to submit their work(s) for consideration in the festival theme of 2019: Anarchy. • >>> APPLY HERE: http://bit.ly/2W3maq3 • The term anarchy comes from Greek “anarchia”, where “a” state for “not” or “without” and “archy” - for “ruler” or “authority”, therefore it refers to the state of society, which exists without authorities and neglects hierarchies. The term historically has some sort of bad connotations, associated with the absence of order and domination if chaos, but is it truly so? In fact, there are many examples in which this non hierarchical decapitated societies work really well, such as international communal society known as kibbutz in Israel, for instance. • How do we perceive the anarchy? Does it sound frightening or inspiring? What do we consider being of an anarchistic character? What does it really mean to be an anarchist? Is it really possible to live in a society without government? Does the order require the authority? Are hierarchies embedded in human nature? • We aim to select +30 artists works to exhibit in solo- and group exhibitions during the festival period, July 5th-September 9th 2019. Entries are handled by photography professionals and curators enhancing the programming, aesthetics, artistic and cultural expressions as well as the quality of the overall production. • More info at: http://bit.ly/2W3maq3#opencall #callforentries #callforsubmissions #photographyfestival #valokuvaaja #valokuvaus #photography #festivalphotography #helsinki #finland #opencall2019 #helsinkiphotofestival #helsinkiphotofestival2019 #helpho #helpho2019 #helpho19 #helphoto #helphoto19 #helphoto2019 #callforartists2019 #photojournalism #fineartphotography #submityourphotos #internationalphotography at Helsinki Photo Festival

He started his career back in 90s with a solo show at the Museum of Modern Art in Borås, Sweden. Ingvar Kenne is represented by The POOL Collective in Sydney and Snyder Represents in New York and divides his time between the two cities. • “Bachelor and Spinsters Ball take place across rural Australia events originally designed to overcome distance; formalised social congregations providing tan opportunity for locals to meet potential life partners. It has over time dissolved into chaos, anarchy and an urge to disconnect from the established. [...] In the Ball the steadfast pattern of confusion and disorder begin to reveal something else entirely. The chaos becomes both a representation and a metaphor for living only in the now with an intensity and joy that perhaps suggests that life is forever and neither yesterday nor tomorrow matter.” • See more at: http://helsinkiphotofestival.com/ingvar-kenne/#helpho #helpho18 #helphoto #helphoto18 #helsinkiphotofestival #helsinkiphotofestival2018 #helsinkipjotofestival2019 #helpho19 #helphoto19 #helsinki #suomi #finland #photographyfestival #contemporaryart #winneropencall #fineartphotography #photographer #photographylovers #photography #valokuvaaja #valokuvaus #finland_photolovers #thisisfinland #thisissweden #swedishphotographer #galleriafutura #ingvarkenne #theball #love at Helsinki Photo Festival

SvitHaseth (NO) @svit_haseth Laura • Winner Open Call, Helsinki Photo Festival 2018 exhibited in the Nordic Village at the Norwegian pavilion in Teurastamo • SvitHaseth is an artist duo consisting of the photographers Janne Amalie Svit and Merete Haseth. They both have a bachelor degree in fine art photography from Kent Institute of Art and Design in England. Since 2003 they have freelanced as photographers, run their own studios and taught photography. They meet at a Folk College in 1997 and became friends, and started SvitHaseth in 2017. The acclaimed editor of the online magazine “aCurator” Julie Grahame describes their work as “Nordic Dark”. • About Laura: Inspired by the current events of the world, the artist duo SvitHaseth created the dystopian tale of Laura in 2017. In this imaginary, close future, we meet Laura, struggling to get by, being alone and living off the leftovers of a rich civilization. Laura is SvitHaseth’s first work with political undertones. The harsh political climate and environmental issues the world is facing are themes that the artists wanted to address in this series. At the same time keeping the cinematic and poetic feel to the images giving the viewer a sense of beauty and hope. Laura is a wake-up call from artist’s duo to love and respect each other and Mother Earth to survive. Magical realism, dystopian literature and films have been an important inspiration for the project. Laura was created on sight for their solo exhibition at Levanger Kunstforening Spring 2017 and consists of 19 photographs and a short novel. • See more at: http://helsinkiphotofestival.com/svithaseth/#helpho #helpho18 #helphoto #helphoto18 #helsinkiphotofestival #helsinkiphotofestival2018 #helsinki #suomi #finland #photographyfestival #contemporaryart #winneropencall #fineartphotography #photographer #photographylovers #photography #valokuvaaja #valokuvaus #finland_photolovers #thisisfinland #thisisnorway #dystopia #norwegianphotographer #svithaseth #laura #love at Helsinki Photo Festival

The series «Lovestruck» illustrates an idealised love that is passionate and obsessive. It is a romantic walk, a fiction built around intimate fleeting moments photographed over the period of a year before or after making love. «Lovestruck» is a sequence of contemplative photos of what it means to be loved in moments of abandon, a love story that is both unique and universal, punctuated by moments of solitude and introspection. It is the account of a love captured in time where the photographer is both observer and participant. «I encounter millions of bodies in my life; of these millions, I may desire some hundreds; but of these hundreds, I love only one.» - Roland Barthes, A Lover’s Discourse: Fragments” - Lydia Metral (translated from French into English by Lavinia Dos Remedios) • See more at: http://helsinkiphotofestival.com/lydia-metral/#helpho #helpho18 #helphoto #helphoto18 #helsinkiphotofestival #helsinkiphotofestival2018 #helsinki #suomi #finland #photographyfestival #contemporaryart #winneropencall #fineartphotography #photographer #photographylovers #photography #valokuvaaja #valokuvaus #finland_photolovers #thisisfinland #thisisfrance #frenchphotographer #galleriafutura #lydiametral #lovestruck #love at Helsinki Photo Festival
