Just having a little sit down after that 😆 . Visiting Crane Park @parkrunuk for the second time today instead of my planned trip to Greenwich for the @runthroughuk event due to train strikes 😡 . Still, I’m really happy I went to this as my backup instead: 11s quicker than last week (despite a very sloppy 4th KM) and another 1st place female finish 🥇🏃🏻‍♀️ . Also very happy to dip under 21 mins again - it was hard work, and Thursday’s 10K had taken more out of me than I’d realised, but forcing myself to go is helping me confront the 5K demons in my head which I’ve been struggling with lately! 🙄 . That was the best run I’ve had in a very, very long time. I don’t know it came from, but I suppose I don’t really care - all I know is that I *really* needed it! 🤩 . Covered my watch with my headband and just ran to feel at a steady pace...Turned out to be what I think is my fastest ever 10K on my own in a training run, and my legs felt fresher than they have done for ages 🏃🏻‍♀️ . Nearly didn’t run tonight because I thought I was too tired, but instead...BOOM! Taking a bit of time just to focus on myself - my goals, my paces, my wellbeing - and to remind myself that I *can* bloody do it, and I need to stop letting my stupid head convincing me otherwise 🙄 . I chickened out of tonight’s club session, and nearly chickened out of doing a session on my own, too. But I made myself go and I did it: 4 x 1.6K tempo / 400m walk-jog recoveries. No extra breaks. No extra pauses. No excuses. The first two reps felt hard, but by the end I was starting to settle into the discomfort. #selfcaresunday not #sundayrunday today . Today has mostly been about pyjamas, candles, herbal tea and deep breaths 🧘🏻‍♀️ . I had my long run on the plan today but, despite 9 hours sleep, I still woke up feeling absolutely shattered, so I’ve spent the day giving my mind and my body a rest. I won’t lie, I do feel guilty for missing my session, and not even doing a little run, but I also really feel I needed this . Back to my heel-striking best @parkrunuk this morning 😂 . Today i tried out a new course, Crane Park, and I LOVED it! Definitely think I’ll be doing this one a lot more in future 😍 . My confidence in my running is all over the place at the moment, and I nearly chickened out of parkrun again this morning. But somehow I made it there, and just wanted to concentrate on putting in a steady, focussed, even run, and I’m really pleased with how it went because I felt pretty comfortable the whole way round at that pace, even on pretty tired legs (well, tired everything really! 😴) . Running into that weekend...🤩 . Nice gentle little run tonight because I’m absolutely wiped after last nights slightly washed out trip to the cricket 🏏😢 #gutted . On another note, one of the very cool things I’ve found with my new @newbalance x @prodirectrunning Fuel Cell Impulse shoes is that they change my footstrike to be more in the midfoot, rather than the not-so-ideal heel strike that I normally have 😆They also make forefoot landing feel much more comfortable than in any of the other shoes I’ve run in, though that’s something that I have to consciously try to do and doesn’t come naturally to me. Still, pretty cool that they have affected my gait in what I think is a positive way😁 . I will say that the first couple of times I wore them, I did get a bit of rubbing round the left heel, but after a couple of uses (and wearing some better socks!) I’ve not had any more problems👍🏻 and of course I’ve got my trusty @enertorglobal insoles in them too! . I don’t know whether to be happy because I did it 👍🏻 or sad because it was horrendous 👎🏻😆 . In any case, #speedsession done: 2 x 4’ (2’ off) / 2 x 3’ (2’ off) / 2 x 2’ (90s off) / 2 x 1’ (90s off) . Lesson learned - don’t try and do a RunThrough club interval session solo: It’s SO hard when you don’t have others dying with you, and I don’t have the self discipline to keep the recoveries short - I added an extra 30s to each recovery today, mostly because I didn’t have coach @cholman602 shouting “GO!” at me and making me run when I didn’t want to 😂 . Really struggling with my mindset for the speed sessions and 5Ks of late and really hope a bit of self belief comes back soon 🤞🏻 that, and a bit of cooler, less humid weather; I’d kinda hoped it was going to rain in my session tonight like the stupid lying weathermen promised. But, shocker, it didn’t. What better way to spend a Sunday morning than Wombling about on Wimbledon Common 🤗 . Had a lovely time high fiving Wombles and helping pace my very talented friend Nat to a sub 2 hour half marathon as she gets back into running after a bit of enforced time off. Although honestly, I wouldn’t have wanted to go much faster myself in the 27C+ heat☀️😰 . Longest run I’ve done in a while, and it was nice to find that the course didn’t seem half as difficult as when I ran it as my first half in October last year...although that might be to do with the distinct lack of mud this time around 😆 . Not sure what’s harder - Wimbledon Common half marathon in baking hot temperatures, or having to wade through it when it’s a muddy bog?! July running - 162K/101 Miles (and exactly 1300KM for the year!) which included: . • my @runthroughuk “anniversary” • a new 5K PB • a new parkrun PB Not to mention lots of happy times running with friends, and one hell of struggle to deal with the almost never ending heatwave ☀️🔥 . Really happy to finally feel genuinely positive about my running again, and starting to get a little bit of confidence back, particularly for the 5K! . Supported through another month of running by my @enertorglobal performance insoles. More pain free running (except when I trod on a tree root and convinced myself I had fractured my toe because I’m an idiot 😆). But seriously, that’s the biggest mileage I’ve put in for a while, and relatively a lot for me personally, and I can’t recommend the insoles enough for helping me to keep running injury free. #messyhairdontcare 💁🏻‍♀️ . Happy, sweaty post-intervals selfie as the lactic wears off and the endorphins kick in 😅 . Another Monday night well spent running round Clapham Common with the RunThrough Intervals gang! . Tonight’s “fun” (to quote @cholman602!) was 10 x 90s on / 60s off. Usually it’s my favourite session, but it did feel hard tonight. But whilst the session feels absolutely horrendous while you’re doing it, but feels so good once it’s over! 😅 . These sessions always remind me how much easier intervals are with friends compared to doing them on your own. I could easily have bailed after 8 reps (well, 5 actually, if I’m being totally honest 😂) and I would never have enforced only 60s recoveries if I’d been doing this solo. But having others with me helped to drag me round the final two on my little jelly legs🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏼‍♀️🏃🏻‍♀️ . Check out those killer running feet sock/shoe tan lines 😆 . Debated posting this, but at the end of the day, these ramblings are primarily for my own benefit and accountability, and know this is something that I’ll prob need to remind myself of in the next few weeks! . Having finally decided that I need to up my game in terms of taking care of myself, one of the first things I needed to address was my diet. Last week I did two things that I personally find really hard & haven’t done in a long, LONG time: . 1) I ate dinner every day, meaning I ate three full, proper, nutritious meals every single day. Even when I didn’t want to. Which, tbf, was most of the time . 2) I upped my calories by 100-200 per day in the name of “reverse dieting” myself back to what should be a sensible and sustainable intake for me, given my activity levels and body composition, using macros that @thesci have given me previously. I was away for the weekend too, so ate a little more (particularly a few more carbs than normal!), & moved a little less from not having to walk everywhere . And you know what?! Despite the fact I was convinced of the opposite, I’ve actually lost a bit of weight for the first time in AGES; my weight is now back in the same range it was after the marathon! 🤩 It’s not a huge amount, but I’m a little person & I struggle to lose any weight at all, so it’s pretty huge for me 🤩 . My energy is still low, but my appetite is coming back & I’m actually feeling hungry. For me, this usually means that my metabolism is coming back online again!🔥 . The main reason I want to drop a few pounds, other than losing some extra chub, is primarily performance based. Although mum affectionately likens me to a rhinoceros when I run, I know I’d have a better shot at a sub-20 5K etc if I weighed significantly less than one 😆🦏🏃🏻‍♀️I also can’t run my best if I’m not well fuelled & struggling to recover from previous workouts . So the big goal for this week is to keep going, & increase my calories by another 100ish/day. I also picked some recipes out of @jamieoliver 5 Ingredients cookbook so even someone as hopeless as me might have a shot at cooking some proper food for once!🤞🏻 at London, United Kingdom

Errm, excuse me...what is this wet watery type stuff that’s all in pools on the ground, plz?! 🧐💦 . One of those runs where I really didn’t want to go at all. Made myself go out just to do 15 mins minimum, and ended up doing the whole session and having a really good run 🏃🏻‍♀️👍🏻 . I love it when that happens! 🤗 . Also dead chuffed at how much easier it was to run in “normal” temperatures.
