Still can't believe this is the same horse! Bear came in with a bucking issue a few weeks ago... he's starting to really relax physically but most importantly mentally. He's come a long way in a short time but we still have a ways to go. Loving his progress and very proud of how much he's trying for me. **Working with a horse that has a bucking issue**: This horse came in from out of state with a bucking issue. Leading up to this video I did my normal groundwork and covered my checklist, which I'll show in a different video. First couple of rides, I never get on all the way... I'm always on halfway with one foot in the stirrup. I'm in a safer position if he goes to blow, I'm able to bail if need be. Then, the first few steps i keep his head flexed to the left and push his hips to the right... this allows his body to start softening up and he'll get comfortable and confident with my weight on his back. I make sure to allow his head forward at times when I'm hopping on and off so that he sees me on both sides and doesn't get surprised seeing me on his off side. Once he's softened up, I'll get him moving out into a trot. I'm also teaching him that just bc my leg touched him, it doesn't mean "go". Without a "cluck" and energy behind my leg, it shouldn't mean go. I'll show this process in a different video as well. This process is slower and requires more time, but the horse will be more relaxed and more confident moving forward... you'll set them up for success a lot better and you'll put yourself in a safe situation. It's not a "push, push, push" process, this whole process is about building the horse's confidence with himself and trust with the rider. This whole session was about an hour long but I cut the video into segments to highlight the points that I talk about above. Anyone that knows this horse knows that he is by NO means an easy horse, but he's very smart and willing.
