I have three reasons for posting this goofy photo from one of the best memories of my life (30th birthday in the Philippines). The reasons are to: 1) express gratitude, 2) introduce myself, and 3) fulfill a challenge.โ € โ € 1) I am SO grateful for those who showed up for Restorative Yoga this morning. This quarantine has been challenging to say the least, but moments like these remind me of my passion, purpose, and connection with others. This 30-minute class will serve the same purpose as last week: to activate your parasympathetic nervous system and DEactivate your sympathetic nervous system. If youโ€™ve asked yourself this question anywhere between 0 and 100 times in the last two weeks, you are not alone. That is the stillness and quiet making space for a question youโ€™ve been asking in the background for a long time.โ € โ € I probably land somewhere in the middle, around 50 times, Iโ€™d say ๐Ÿ˜‡โ € โ € The way I see it, there are three ways you can ask yourself this question:โ € โ € 1. ๐˜ž๐˜ช๐˜ต๐˜ฉ ๐˜ฑ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ช๐˜ค: โ€œWHAT AM I DOING WITH MY LIFE?โ€ The question is in all caps and at the highest volume in your mind. It comes from a place of fear and the question replays over and over in your head. Everything in your body goes into hyper speed and activation to find the answer.โ € โ € 2. ๐˜ž๐˜ช๐˜ต๐˜ฉ ๐˜ด๐˜ฆ๐˜ญ๐˜ง-๐˜ญ๐˜ฐ๐˜ข๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜จ/๐˜ค๐˜ณ๐˜ช๐˜ต๐˜ช๐˜ค๐˜ช๐˜ด๐˜ฎ: โ€œWhat am I DOING with my life? Ugh!โ€ The โ€œughโ€ exaggerates the point, but you get it. The question is asked with disdain and resentment. You think you already know the answer: nothing. "Iโ€™m doing nothing with my life.โ€โ €โ € โ € 3. ๐˜ž๐˜ช๐˜ต๐˜ฉ ๐˜จ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฏ๐˜ถ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜ฆ ๐˜ค๐˜ถ๐˜ณ๐˜ช๐˜ฐ๐˜ด๐˜ช๐˜ต๐˜บ: โ€œHmm what am I doing with my life?โ€ The tone is pleasant and interested. You are okay with not having an answer right now and this allows your mind to be at ease and open to all possibilities.โ € โ € I went through each of these last night, in order, from one to the next. It was exhausting, but getting to the place of curiosity was worth it. I donโ€™t know about you, but lately Iโ€™ve been feeling pretty powerless. So in small ways, I try to find ways to feel powerful.
