Kotor is a coastal town in Montenegro. It is located in a secluded part of the Gulf of Kotor. This old Mediterranean port is surrounded by fortifications built during the Venetian period. The bay is one of the most indented parts of the Adriatic Sea. Some have called it the southern-most fjord in Europe, but it is actually a ria, which is a submerged river canyon. Visitors are attracted to Kotor by its natural environment and the beauty of the old town of Kotor. The fortified city is listed on the UNESCO’s World Heritage Site list. #kotor #montenegro #gulf #mediterranean #port #fort #venetian #adriatic #sea #fjord #ria #river #canyon #picoftheday #photooftheday #instagood #instadaily #igers #travel #viewfromabove #birdseyeview #satellite #satelliteimagery #vantagepoint at Kotor, Montenegro

Tampa, Florida’s name is believed to come from the Calusa (Native America people of Florida’s southwest coast) phrase “Sticks of Fire”, for the amount of nasty lightning that Tampa sees each summer. It is also how the local hockey team, the Tampa Bay Lightning, got its name. During Prohibition, Tampa was one of the top sellers of illegal liquor in the country, in the 1980’s the city moved on to other hobbies and was considered the metal capital of the music world. Tampa Bay may be Florida’s biggest port, but the waterway is surprisingly shallow – only 12 feet deep. Manmade channels had to be dredged to allow ships in. #tampa #florida #bay #sunshinestate #calusa #nativeamerican #southwest #coast #sticks #fire #lightning #hockey #illegal #liquor #music #port #waterway #ships #picoftheday #photooftheday #instagood #instadaily #igers #travel #viewfromabove #birdseyeview #satellite #satelliteimagery #vantagepoint at Tampa, Florida

If you only visit one glacier in your life, Perito Moreno would be a good one to pick. It towers above the turquoise glacial water of Patagonia’s Los Glaciares National Park, in Argentina, beaming a blinding white and exuding cold blue hues. Unlike most of earth’s other glaciers, Perito Moreno is still growing. The Perito Moreno Glacier, named for a 19th-century explorer, is currently 19 miles long and rises an average height of 240 feet above the water. Altogether, the glacier covers about 121 square miles. It is part of an ice field located in both Argentina and Chile that is the third largest reserve of fresh water in the world. Part of an area known as Argentina’s Austral Andes, it became a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1981. #perito #moreno #glacier #losglaciars #nationalpark #argentina #patagonia #blue #cold #ice #explorer #water #icefield #chile #freshwater #andes #unesco #picoftheday #photooftheday #instagood #instadaily #igers #travel #viewfromabove #birdseyeview #satellite #satelliteimagery #vantagepoint at Glacier Perito Moreno

When measured from the traditional source at Lake Itasca, Minnesota, the Mississippi River has a length of 2,320 miles as it empties into the Gulf of Mexico. The name comes from “Misi zipi”, meaning “Great River”. The river can be divided into three sections, the Upper Mississippi, the river portion from its headwaters to the confluence with the Missouri River; the Middle Mississippi, from downriver of the Missouri to the Ohio River; and the Lower Mississippi, which flows from the Ohio River to the Gulf of Mexico. The Mississippi is one of the great waterways of the world, accommodating barges and shipping vessels that transport goods from the U.S. to all over the world. #mississippi #river #nola #neworleans #louisiana #gulf #mexico #upper #middle #lower #headwaters #confluence #missouri #ohio #waterway #barge #vessel #picoftheday #photooftheday #instagood #instadaily #igers #travel #viewfromabove #birdseyeview #satellite #satelliteimagery #vantagepoint at Mississippi River
