We ran two gratitude workshops and enjoyed connecting with so many awesome humans. .
It’s a rare occurrence in today’s world to be in a place where there is no cell signal, no wifi and 100% human connection and conversation- with time and space to just be. .

WHAT IS MEDITATION
We often hear people tell us that they don’t need to meditation because exercise, or sleep, or reading, or _______ is their meditation .
While we are all for incorporating all of this into life, the key distinction is that these act as a way to reduce stress, but they are not meditation
To truly feel the most benefit for your brain and body, it is in the calm and stillness of meditation that the benefits will begin

EMOTIONS and learning to better understand them
A benefit of meditation is the ability to better understand your own emotions, as well as tune in to yourself- and fear is something common to all of us and can display in many forms, causing a lack of action or the refusal to try something new, be it a new job, launch a business, make new friends, travel somewhere exotic, change your eating habits, and the list goes on.
Through the stillness, allow yourself to better understand your fears, and what is holding you back from change.

WHEN DOES STRESS BUILD- for many- it’s the typical busy modern lifestyle of being on the go non stop that can cause people to lose sight of their priorities in life.
Meditation is a helpful technique to slow things down, and in the silence, and the stillness, priorities may become more clear.
As awareness of what is truly important in life becomes more apparent when you take the time to slow down and assess your day to day, it may be that you find ways to simplify life and reduce stress loads.
Perhaps it’s saying no to plans that you don’t really want to attend. Perhaps it’s delegating tasks. Perhaps it’s scheduling and prioritizing time for stillness.

We were on site with Arc yesterday, and enjoyed many engaging conversations around mental wellness and the importance of meditation
The biggest myth we hear? It’s that everyone thinks that you need to rid your mind of all thoughts and that seems to be impossible ~
We enjoy teaching and discussing this point, and that the aim of meditation is not to magically cause all thoughts to stop, but to refocus the brain and intentionally choose where to place your mental focus, which during some mediations is on the breath or on a visualization
Every time you bring your focus back to the present moment, you are strengthening your brain :

Wake up and start with 5 deep breathes before checking your phone 🌱
Pay true attention to how your hands feel on the steering wheel while driving 🌱
Notice the feel of the group beneath your feet as you walk somewhere 🌱
Stop to notice something that you can hear, smell, and taste at any given moment 🌱
Slowly eat a meal, paying attention to the flavour, consistency, and texture of the meal 🌱
Use eye contact when talking with strangers or friends 🌱
Think about 3 things you are grateful for at the end of the day 🌱

GROUP MEDITATION is a great way to learn the basics of how to meditate. Last night we facilitated a session with a group of 20, which is an ideal size for a private session followed by a Q & A.
One of the most common questions or comments that we hear is “I’m just not good at sitting still or meditation “
We like to break down the process into ideas that are both easy to understand, and to implement daily to bring about the benefits of calm and reduced stress with regular practice. Creating group connection, conversation, and the experience of meditation, whether it be the first time ever, or part of a regular routine for some. .

REST IS IMPORTANT -
A common theme we hear is the importance of rest and how people feel it’s needed, but so few actually give themselves the time to rest while tangled in our culture of constant busyness
Rest can also be misconstrued as to what is effective to actually help your body and brain to recover -
For some, lying on the couch and binging on Netflix may be considered a form of rest, but this is not actually providing your brain with a chance to recoup from the constant stimulation of modern life
Silence and time for the brain and body to simply just be, ideally in nature, but inside is great too, and opportunity to breathe and focus on enhancing ones mindfulness of being in the moment
The brain recharges from silence and true rest, which meditation provides and allows the brain to strengthen and enhance focus after downtime.

WELLNESS DAYS -
Today @holisticjason and myself were on site at Mid Sun Junior High for their wellness day, as we led two groups of students through a gratitude exercise, breath work techniques, and a guided meditation. -
The teachers were blown away at how quiet all of the kids were, as this was not the norm on a Friday, or ever! Seeing the youth actively engage themselves in learning new techniques and start to understand the many ways that mindfulness can fit into their lives is incredible rewarding.

DAILY GRATITUDE .
We came across this little reminder on a hike today, and it ties perfectly into our talks on the importance of gratitude with our clients. It is very difficult to be both grateful and angry or anxious at the exact same moment, and choosing to start each day with a moment to pause and reflect on something or someone for which you are grateful can play a role in building a positive mindset.

MEDITATION IN SCHOOLS .
We received a beautiful thank you card today after an engaging school session a few weeks ago. Watching kids suddenly understand what meditation is and connect the dots with how it can benefit them in day to day life is wonderful to be a part of, and one of our favourite parts is teaching kids different breathing techniques. .
