As we commemorate Veterans Day, we also pay tribute to the MTA's own who served. Among them is Walter Reed, who celebrated his 98th birthday this week. Mr. Reed joined the army in 1941, and later operated work trains for NYC Transit until his retirement in 1977. (Photo: M. Hermann / MTA NYCT.)

As part of a pilot program under MTA Chairman Joseph Lhota’s Subway Action Plan, 100 of our “R-160” cars are being redesigned, to include increased capacity, as well as mechanical and cosmetic improvements. These cars started running on the E line this week. Click on the link in our profile for more information! (Photos: M. Hermann / MTA NYCT.)

This is the first of 33 stations to undergo extensive renovations as part of Governor Cuomo’s initiative to create new and improved design standards for subway stations.
