Lolo Creek flows through Travelers' Rest State Park and National Historic Landmark, a historic and contemporary crossroads. Salish, Pend d'Oreille and Nez Perce peoples were among those who traditionally occupied the area. The Park is also at the core of a campsite used by the Lewis and Clark's Corps of Discovery from September 9 - 11, 1805 and again from June 30 - July 3, 1806. This makes Travelers' Rest the only campsite on the Lewis and Clark Trail with physical evidence of the expedition. Fall is in full swing at Missouri Headwaters State Park, which encompasses the confluence of the Jefferson, Madison and Gallatin Rivers. Indigenous Peoples Day honors the Native peoples who first called this beautiful land home. First Peoples Buffalo Jump has been a place of significance for tribes for thousands of years. Recently, Montana’s Little Shell Tribe of Chippewa Indians reached what may be a watershed moment in its four-decade struggle for federal recognition. An unopposed bill to provide federal recognition to the Little Shell Tribe unanimously passed out of the full U.S. House in September. It must still pass through the Senate and President, but a pivotal step in the process. . The State of Montana recognized the Little Shell Tribe in 2000. There are an estimated 5,400 enrolled Little Shell in Montana. The tribe maintains an office in Great Falls. at First Peoples Buffalo Jump State Park

The Fraternity Hall building in the historic silver mining town of Elkhorn, Montana. This town flourished in the 1880's and 1890's, during the height of it's $14 million mining boom. At it's peak, the town was home to over 2500 people, including many of the miner's families... stores, saloons and brothels abounded and three passenger trains came to town weekly. The town suffered through a diphtheria epidemic in 1888-89, and if you walk through the cemetery you can see the abundance of children's graves from that time. Then the silver veins began to play out and by 1897 the town was dwindling. Sunset over the Missouri Headwaters State Park in Three Forks. The Missouri Headwaters area was a geographical focal point important to early Native Americans trappers, traders and settlers, including the Flathead, Bannock, and Shoshoni Tribes. The legendary Sacajawea was captured here as a child and eventually returned as a member of the Corps of Discovery.
