Let the adventures begin. Go find yours in a National Park. ••••• Thanks to Andy @andys.universe for showing of the amazement. —-- I get asked often how it is that i got into photography & how i go about it. Simple, i never saw it as a captured photo but a captured moment, one that i could remember not just the details that present themselves in a crystallized photo, but as well the conversations, the silence, the smells & touch. It has always been about the mood of my soul & its surroundings as a whole, being one with the moment & the universe in its glory. . . . (Looking back at Zion Angels Landing trail, as majestic as the top view was, this spot along the way has got to be my favorite. Smelling the moisture & trees, listening to the chirps of the birds, the flow of the river, & the shades of warm & the cold generating from its canyon walls) 🌞⛅🌚🗻💞 . . . . . We warmer temperatures hibernating animals are awaking. Happy First Day of Spring. The cherry blossoms are to peak in the next few weeks at the National Mall @nationalmallnps Go find your Spring in a National Park. •••••• Thanks to Jay @jay_moore_photography for sharing the Spring. ——- As winters relentless hold on mother nature succumbs to the early signs of spring, we see the monochromatic slumbering world around us begin to awaken with small splashes of color sprouting from the thawed grounds and flowering branches overhead. As we gallop into brighter and warmer days which lie ahead, lets us give our mind, body and spirit an opportunity to absorb those vibrant colors. Breathe in those sweet, succulent smells. Feel the warmth from the afternoon sun. Hear the glorious sounds of song birds. Taste the new life that grows beneath our feet. Springs awakens. Let us awaken with it. This time of year always means the start of The National Cherry Blossom Festival, which is set to begin on Wednesday, March 20, the first day of spring. If you’re planning to make the trip to Washington DC this year, the date of peak bloom is always difficult to predict. The average date for peak bloom is April 4 and the National Park Services currently forecast it to be from April 3-6. This image was captured a few years ago on a very bright and somewhat windless day. After searching for and finding a cherry blossom window, I set up my tripod for a multiple exposure focal blend, to ensure crispness throughout the scene. And after several failed attempts and then waiting for awhile for no wind and movement with the blossoms, I was finally able to capture a focal stack set of images. The result gives us a depth of sharpness from the cherry blossoms in the foreground to the Washington Monument in the distance. . . . . . #earth_shotz #nationalparkgeek #amazing_shots #stellar_shots #splendid_earth #special_shots #master_gallery #depthsofearth #eclectic_shotz #earthpix #earthfocus #earthofficial #awesome_earthpix #hubs_united #bns_landscape #bestnatureshot #nature_perfection #visualambassadors #got_greatshots #tree_magic #tree_captures #tree_brilliance #MyDCcool #DClife ——-- #nationalparkgeek at National Mall and Memorial Parks

Winter will hold her grip for a little longer so take advantage of the seasonal adventures. ••••• Thanks to Kate @kate_lockhart for keeping it cool. ——- Sunset over Rainy Lake, Voyageurs NP. I made my first trip to Voyageurs National Park last week. I had a lovely visit - I drove on the Rainy Lake Ice Road, I went snowshoeing in Black Bay and I checked out the exhibits at the Rainy Lake Visitor Center. I felt like I had the place all to myself at times! Now I’m eager to come back and see what it’s like in the late summer. #findyourpark #voyageursnationalpark #exploreminnesota #outsideisfree #landscapephotography #winterlandscapes #rainylake #sonyalpha #bealpha ——- #nationalparkgeek #nationalpark at Voyageurs National Park

The Badlands are looking mighty pretty with a coating of snow. ••••••• Thanks to Tucker @tuckolson for the badness of the Badlands. —— - South Dakota is such an underrated place. The beauty of Mother nature’s creations astound us every day. •••••• Thanks to Jort @yellowstoneguide for the perfect owl. ——-- Wintery pygmy owl. Late December I undertook one of my most hazardous adventures this winter. I had driven back and forth seeing one of my favorite birds in the park, the elusive pygmy owl, but I failed to get any decent shots. I decided to climb up a very steep and snowy hill to get into a meadow and hope for the bird to land closer, as it had done before in a tree there. I literally crawled up the hill, often sliding down all the progress I had made, but eventually I made it and put myself in a very uncomfortable position to wait it out. It took some thirty minutes before the little owl finally came back, even though all those minutes seemed hours. It gave me some looks, but mostly was gazing down the tree to the other side, likely having its eyes on a prize. The snow kept falling and through a small window of white branches I could take some photos. This is the result of one of those photos, with a mega crop on it. The way back to my car I could slide, with a big fall in the end. What a story you have when amazing moments happen. ••••• Thanks to the great Isaac @isaacspicz for sharing the incredible images. ——- A lone Coyote howls during a snow storm. I was out laying on my stomach in the snow photographing this beautiful animal when he all of a sudden stood up and started howling and communicating with the other Coyotes in the area. Being alone with this animal in a blizzard with the sound of howling and snow falling on my camera was a surreal feeling. ❄️ • • • • #grandtetons #tetons #nationalpark #nationalparkgeek #nature #wildlife #wildlifephotography #splendid_nature #splendid_animals #discover_wyoming #winter #snow #snowy #coyote #landscape #explore #natgeo #survival #follow #jacksonhole #beauty #tetoncollective #packtography #wildwest #jacksonwyoming #onlythestrongsurvive #wildlifeig #nikon #nikond850 #blackandwhite —— #nationalparkgeek at Grand Teton National Park

The raw scale of nature keeps it all in perspective. ••••••• Thanks to Alicia @wherewithalicia for the goodness of Arches. —-- I know I’ve said it recently, but I’ve really been dreaming about heading back to Utah lately. This state far exceeded my expectations, and I only saw a little. 🧡 • • • Spent most of yesterday watching “adventure documentaries,” mainly Free Solo and Jane. I’m so inspired and honestly heading into this week thinking about all the stuff I want to do this year, this decade, this life. Nothing seems impossible. • • • Honestly been thinking a lot about what I want, what parts of social media I love&hate, and all things travel&blog related. Haven’t come to any clear decisions yet (😆) but I’m pretty excited about chasing goals. ✌🏼 ——— #arches #archesnationalpark #nationalparkgeek #FYPyes #nps #nationalpark #nationalparks #americasbestidea #findyourpark #goparks #nationalparkfoundation #everykidinapark #nature #naturelovers #npca #nationalparktrust #protectourpubliclands #climatechangeisreal #onepercentfortheplanet at Arches National Park

The beauty of Joshua Tree NP last a full 24 hours every day. •••••• Thanks to Stephen @stephenbayphoto for the beautiful night. ——-- The Milky Way is now visible at night in the hours just before dawn. I've made a few trips out to photograph it since the new year but had no luck due to clouds obscuring the view. So I thought I'd share this image taken last summer at Joshua Tree. One of the things that I love about Joshua Tree is that there are so many different compositions available with the giant rocks located all over the park. This was shot on a trip with @highdynamicsphoto. He had scouted this area on a prior visit and wanted to return to shoot the MW here. So I just tagged along without doing much planning myself. I've shot quite a few times with Chris and one thing that surprises me is that our compositions and final images are often totally different even when we are shooting the same subject. This is a stacked pano. 4x1 for the sky @25mm f/2.8, 13s, ISO 1600. The foreground is 6 stacked shots @25mm f/3.5, 60s, ISO 1600. #joshuatree #joshuatreenationalpark #nationalparkgeek #milkyway #nightscapes #milkywaychasers #lightchasersworld #astrophotography #jumborocks #jumborockscampground ——— #nationalparkgeek #jtnpa at Joshua Tree National Park
