Aaaaaand finally✨ #MeetMyNCNWSis & President, Sydney Carr!!!🌞👩🏾‍⚖️ Sydney is a Cancer, & a Senior majoring in Political Science with a minor in Africana Studies✊🏿💡⚖️ "This year, I'm looking forward to seeing UConn NCNW flourish as the first chapter of its kind in the entire New England region. At a time when America is plagued by racial unrest, it is essential that there are organizations such as NCNW that are committed to uplifting people of color, particularly women of color. I am excited to see NCNW grow and have a meaningful impact not only on the UConn student body, but on women of color in our surrounding communities. My definition of black girl magic: The ability to overcome all odds when you have two identities weighing against you:1)being black and 2) being woman. Black girl magic is the unique power that black women have to rise to the occasion, to keep our heads held high, and to walk with dignity and grace in the face of adversity." 🌱🌱🌱 that's our 2017-2018 Executive Board for the UCONN Chapter of the National Council of Negro Women 💛💛💛

Black girl magic is celebrating the blackness of our mind , bodies , and souls. It is defying racial, beauty, age, academic and economic stereotypes and doing it all BY OURSELVES , FOR OURSELVES. " ✨✨✨✨✨

This year for NCNW, I am looking forward to building a strong bond not only with the E-board but with the members and build a strong sisterhood and learn from each other. ⚡️💜🕊 #MeetMyNCNWSis-- IIINTRODUCING〰 Our sis & Community Outreach Director Djion Holness✨✨✨✨ " Hi I'm Djion, an Animal Science major on the Pre veterinary medicine track, beginning my junior year. I'm an Aquarius (the best sign lol) ♒️!! I am looking forward to building a community for not only self growth and empowerment, but also for the growth of the UConn community as a whole. My definition of black girl magic is resilience; the black women in my life have always found a way to bounce back from whatever obstacles life puts in front of them. To me, that type of resilience is simply magical! "

And true, understanding sisterhood as an org that allows Black Femmes of all types to gather and see themselves. That's part of our grand black girl magic. Our *iconic* ability to always create homes for ourselves and in ourselves, while consciously holding space for our sis."
