My kiln was still too hot to unload tonight, but @cpuigpottery sent me this quick peek at the top shelf. This is my first full solo kiln firing ever. I can’t wait to see how the rest of the kiln came out.

Dang y’all, thanks for all the love today. Here’s a picture of me in my parents’ backyard this weekend in between rainstorms. 🌈

Remember these babes? Round 1 was a total disaster (major glaze fail) but the second round yielded these results. Putting these in the mail today to a friend who has waited patiently for them.

Seems a little small when I park it all together on a rack, but these two pics represent almost a month’s worth of work as a v v part-time potter. I was aiming for 80 but made it to 63. Not bad. The pots are now drying and waiting to be bisque fired next week. Then, they’ll be washed, waxed, (some) underglaze painted, glazed, and fired again. Some will then be gold-detail-painted and fired a third time. See also: why handmade pottery can be expensive. See also: why ceramics is a “slow art.” 😆 In the meantime, I’ll be leaving the house before the sun is up tomorrow to make a quick trip to Kansas. 🌾

Trimming a bunch of wobbly bottoms tonight. I tried a different process for throwing these last few pots, and it looks like I’ll be leaning into wabi sabi style for these since that’s what they want to be. Feels like a funny metaphor for my life at the moment tbh.

I have a thing for imprecise patterns. I love that there are so many places where they show up in the pottery process. ⋒

What a treat to see work by some @boulderpottersguild members on the walls at @firehouseartcenter, where I saw not one but TWO @josiahjohnson performances this weekend. (This piece by @joyousceramics.) V grateful to @faf_colorado for making it possible, and to @josiahsjohnsons for being a truly magical human - and for the Salt + Sea shoutout! 🙌🏼💓 at Firehouse Art Center

In working with clay, it’s so delightful to see how forms evolve as they come to life. I like to leave room for any magic that wants to play or weave itself into the making or development of a piece. As with any creative making, I think of myself as the channel rather than the source... It really lightens up my relationship to the clay and the final product. I’m really loving how sweet this little batch of chocolate mugs is coming together. Puttin’ a lot of good juju in these.
