Happy weekend from Grace and Olivia! Their intentions are Purpose and Adventure. They get to the heart of what it means to show up: with intention and knowing WHY and still coming with open hands and an open heart. . Grace on Purpose: As a busy college student, I have found myself getting caught up in ‘what’ I’m doing, instead of asking asking myself ‘why’ I’m doing it. I chose the word ‘purpose’ for 2019 as a reminder to be more mindful day in and day out. By asking myself ‘What is the purpose of this?’ I can answer the question of ‘how is this serving me?’ . Olivia on Adventure: A lot is going to change for me in the next few months and it really scares me where I might end up. Throughout my life, I have always traveled but the decisions of where we were going to go and what we were going to do were always made for me. In the next few months, I need to be okay with not knowing exactly what is going to happen. Now that I have the freedom to do so I want to travel more. I want to let loose a little and see what the world has to offer me. I want to say yes to the things that get me out of my comfort zone and allow me to break into new territories. Adventure opens the door for me to do all of the things that I want to do and not just all of the things that I have to do. . If you haven’t chosen a word yet, it’s not too late! Start with seeing where in your life there is room for growth or something new and then throw out 10 words that resonate. Sit with them and try them on until you choose just one. Then OWN IT!

This team is committed to helping make Athens more comfortable for all! . Maybe you’ve already noticed by these warm, loving smiles... or maybe you’ve seen it on our schedule... . If you look, you’ll see 4 classes called ‘Get Comfy,’ and as Taylor reminded us last week “that doesn’t mean this class is going to be comfortable.” . It means that for a $10 drop in, you get to take a sweaty yoga class AND give back! 50% of all proceeds go straight to The Get Comfortable Fund. . The Get Comfortable Fund is a nonprofit created by Creature Comforts Brewery that gives directly back to our Athens community in places with the most need each year. (Last year we helped serve over 2200 families.) . We are proud to offer accessible yoga that also serves the community we rely on. 💛💦✨ . . . ***if you’re a Shakti member, you are always welcome to donate in any amount in the studio... and when you sign up, proceed as though you’re ready to buy the class and mindbody will instead make the class free for you*** . #shaktilove #showupsweatshine #getcomfy #athensga at Athens, Georgia

Christine and Katie are leaning into finding something extraordinary in the every day. What’s possible if we approach big and small changes with openness and positivity? . Christine on Adventure: 2019 will be a year for adventure! As a very new mama, this year marks a major shift in my identity and everyday routines. Things will never be the kind of "normal" that I’ve come to know and rely on. I’m welcoming this life change with openness and patience (the usual suspects) but also with a spirit of adventure. There is so much to learn and discover as I navigate motherhood, heal my postpartum body, and reconnect with my community. In 2019 I’m looking at each day - challenges and all - as a new adventure. . Katie on Joy: Joy means finding big or small gratitudes in the good, the mundane, and in the hard things...and this is something I want to work on for 2019. Also that laughter is v important medicine 🤗

Juliana + Shelley speak straight to the heart with Trust and Ready. They’re open to what comes and trusting they have the tools and the heart to show up and shine. . Juliana on Trust: Trust is the feeling I intend to follow during 2019! I’ve had a hard time trusting myself during difficult times but I’ve realized that life would be so much easier if I followed and trust my intuition. Many changes are coming for me during this 2019 but sticking to only the things that make me feel trust will definitely take me in the right direction. ✨ . Shelley on Ready: In 2019, I am R E A D Y. I’m ready to meet the possibilities of the present moment without planning and preparation. Too often I wait for some exquisite alignment of the stars to follow through on something- where in order to do D, I must first do A, B, and C perfectly. I’m ready to act now rather than wait for a different, more perfect opportunity. I’m ready to write things in ink on my calendar and commit to them. I’m ready to pause getting the laundry folded and dishes put away in order to leave home and make it to the thing I want to do. I’m ready for you to come over for lunch at my house without needing to pick up all the toys and obsessively clean so that it doesn’t look like a family lives there. I’m ready to teach a yoga class even if I did not extensively plan a theme, a sequence, and a playlist that times perfectly so specific songs come on right at certain postures. I open up to showing up to what’s right in front of me to observe and step in right now and I trust that I have everything I need, exactly as I am and as I am not. I’m ready to simply BE!

Cali & Shelby are walking into 2019 with more ease and more breeze. They chose words to keep them grounded and trusting. ✨ . Cali on Breathe: Taking everyday, every obstacle, every challenge, and every smile with breath in mind. Breathing through everything that life can throw at me in 2019. . Shelby on Patience: I chose patience as my intention word for 2019 because I want to constantly remind myself that I am not always in control. As much as I like to have a plan for many parts of my life, I realize that sometimes my plan does not always work out because God has a greater plan. With many life changes coming up during 2019, I want to remember that there is power in the present, so be patient for the perfect time God has planned to reveal to me my next steps through this journey we call life.

Molly and Lane chose words for 2019 that prompt them to live in the present moment and let all possibilities open themselves up. They’re both graduating and have the wisdom to see that life will have some shifts, but if you’re open and courageous in the approach, life can still feel spacious. . Molly on Open: I want to be open to the possibilities that 2019 has to offer instead of being tied down to plans or schedules. I want to be open to others opinion and views. I want to be open to a new practice on and off the mat. And I want to be open to a new perspective for the future. . Lane on Courage: My intention word for 2019 is courage. Courage to feel, take up space, to expand, to love, take chances, and always stay true to myself. I began this New Year with a resolution to "not commit". I am graduating in a few short months, and wanted to remain surrendered to the present by leaving all doors open. I planned to "not commit" until Friday, May 10 (UGA Spring Undergraduate Commencement). One week in, and I have been bombarded by situations where I was forced to make a decision. Commitment is a part of life, and maybe it doesn't mean closing doors. Commitment can look like a lot of things, none of which is anything to be afraid of. I guess that's what is at the root "not committing"- fear. In the midst of decisions, I want to remain courageous. Courage says "I am valuable" and "I matter".

Coming into 2019 with simplicity and purpose and showing up EXACTLY as you are ✨ . Taylor on Simplicity “In 2019, I’m choosing simplicity. I tend to make things more complicated than they really are. I want to regain comfort in simplicity instead of feeling overwhelmed in trying to “look good” all time. I think in today’s world, we overlook being simple; “it’s not enough.” Actually, though, simple means clear, understandable, and straightforward. That is enough! Being complex or “looking good” at all times is exhausting (which is the opposite of what it looks like). With simplicity, I’m able to direct my attention to what is really important.” . Jaclyn on Purpose: “At first I didn’t want the word “purpose” because I associated it with finally figuring it out and then getting happy. Like, oh I found my purpose ... that’s my permission to say I figured it out. But it kept coming back to me! I chose purpose because it is grounding, an access to freedom and possibility, and an invitation to return to my heart. Purpose gives me reason to feel alive in my day-to-day and to dream big. It motivates me to “be in the work” and know that I have it in me to create, to seek joy and to live with intention.”

✨ You Are Here ✨ . . . For 2019 we choose to cultivate Courage, Connection, & Community. You'll hear us talk about each as we grow. It starts with Courage... Brene Brown says 'Courage starts by showing up and letting ourselves be seen.' Courage means we are committed to stepping outside our bubble in order to see & be seen. Meaningful connection happens when we are willing to be courageous. It isn't always easy to connect, but it is simple-- we just have to practice it. Meaningful connection means being open to the moment & caring about the person right in front of you. Our intention of Community goes beyond the walls of the studio. Community is a byproduct when we are intentionally courageous and we consistently connect! True community is sustained by our efforts; it's an action verb, just like love. We are exited to grow together in 2019 with more Courage, Connection, & Community! ✨✨✨ . . . What do courage, connection, & community mean to you? How do we practice them? How do we get there? When do we know it's happening? #showupsweatshine #shaktilove #athensga #intentions #shaktiathome at Shakti Power Yoga Athens

We thought it was extra special that Maritza and Emily independently chose the word ‘Grace’ as their intention for 2019. These power ladies have seen huge growth in 2018 and are ready to tackle 2019 with love and care. . A little from Maritza: “I choose grace because I want a year that I am constantly reminded of grace in everything I do. I have spent a lot of time in 2018 judging what I could have done better and in 2019 I want to have grace with myself in all that I do. I have also noticed that when I do things with grace everything seems lighter and easier! 🌻” . And from Emily: “✨Grace, because I’m too hard on myself. 2018 was a year of digging up old wounds. 2019 will be a year of healing them.✨”

Some years bring a lot of change... Sara & Carli have a big year ahead, and their intentions remind us how we can all keep calm & stay confident in the midst of anticipated shifts. ✨ . . . ✨Sara’s intention: TRUST✨ “Trust has been coming up a lot for me recently because I am approaching a time of great changes in 2019 (graduating, finding a job, moving to a new city, my relationships, etc). With change comes a lot of decisions and a lot of stress. I’ve never been one to thrive in the midst of even simple decisions and often get paralyzed by my indecision and second guessing myself. So I choose trust as a reminder to trust my intuition, trust the path that I am on, and if everything goes wrong trust the process that I can start again and nothing was truly wasted. I am hoping this will allow me to relieve some stress and decision fatigue and free some energy for me to be more present and engaged without feeling the need to compulsively plan and second guess myself.” . . . ✨Carli’s intention: CONSISTENCY✨ “In my life, I’m working toward striving for consistency and learning not to worry about the little things. If you dwell on the immediate, you get shortsighted. If you aim for consistency, what you’ve been working toward will be there at the end. Better yet, consistency is something you can always improve on. You can be more consistent with your mental approach, the things you do physically. You can always do more of what you are doing well and try to be as consistent as you can be.” . . . Is 2019 a big year for you, too? What’s your word and how does it support your year ahead? ✨✨✨ at Athens, Georgia

Setting an intention word for 2019 is a great way to draw out your strengths and also prepare for challenges. Melissa & Megan remind us that this moment is all we’ve got ✨ . ✨Melissa: Presence✨ “My intention is ‘presence.’ With this being my last semester in school at UGA I want to focus on spending time with my friends and enjoying being in Athens. I heard a great quote that resonated with me, “Be present in your present.” This means putting my phone down and enjoying what I’m doing in the moment.” . . . ✨Megan: Ease✨ “I am one of the many people who suffers from an anxiety disorder. I find that the way I want to feel is calm, and I think I try too hard to feel that way. Ease is the path to that feeling. I try too hard to look good for others, to impress myself, to accomplish what may be humanly impossible. I chose “ease” because I deserve that. I deserve a year of ease and calm. I deserve a break while also striving for the best. Ease is something you can’t control, and that is why I’m so attracted to it.” . Keep checking in to see how our team is stepping into the new year⚡️

Part of the power of intention-setting is that it reminds you of who you want to be... that is, who you already are at your core. Annie & Phelan’s intentions remind us of that... . ✨Annie’s intention: Sincere✨ “I chose the word sincere after Cathy Jackson explained its origin. Sin-cere means "without wax" in Latin. The story goes, back in those days there were sculptors who would add wax to their works to fill in the cracks and cover up impurities. When other sculptors noticed this, they began advertising their works as "sin-cere", without wax. To me, this means not only is it important to show up without wax, sincerely, authentically just as you are... but that the cracks, the impurities are what make you uniquely YOU and are to be advertised and celebrated, not covered with wax. In 2019 my intention is to embody this definition of sincere and show up in each moment authentically, without wax, in celebration of my uniqueness - which I hope will give permission others to do the same.” . ✨Phelan’s intention: ALLOW✨ “I’ve been considering this word a lot recently and have clear intentions of how and when I want to resource it in 2019... There are moments in my day when it benefits my experience to intentionally take a breath, choose my seat of observation, and allow the moment to be what it is. This is acceptance, reception with gratitude. This includes allowing other people to be who they are and, very importantly, allowing myself to be who I am. The moment we begin to allow without expectation or disappointment is a moment of clarity. When we allow, we are seeing things as they are and not as we want them to be. Our vision is enhanced and more possibilities are available to us. We are more available to ourselves and more capable of the change that we want to effect.” . . ✨What’s possible if you show up without wax and allow the moment to be what it is? ✨✨✨ . #shaktilove #showupsweatshine #athensga at Athens, Georgia
