Today I show you a current picture from my hometown Ahrweiler. The main attraction of Ahrweiler is the completely preserved medieval city fortification. The city wall is circular around the city and has four gates: the Ahr Gate, the Nieder Gate, the Ober Gate and the Adenbach Gate. The Ahr Gate was rebuilt after destruction in the war. The many half-timbered houses in Ahrhutstraße, the market and Niederhutstraße, the two shopping streets in the largely car-free old town, are also idyllic. Ahrweiler lies in the Ahr valley and in the eastern foothills of the Ahr mountains. The Ahr flows through Ahrweiler on the southern edge of the town, and after another 10 kilometres the Ahr flows into the Rhine. The nearest major cities are Bonn in the north, about 35 kilometres away, Koblenz, which is about 55 kilometres further south and Cologne about 55 kilometres north of Ahrweiler. On August 2, 1248, Archbishop Konrad I of Are-Hochstaden in Are (Altenahr) confirmed the town's rights to the citizens of Ahrweiler. Construction of the city wall of Ahrweiler, which still exists today, began in 1250 and was completed about ten years later. ⠀⠀⠀

In a narrow alley: Summer in April 2018 in the medieval village of Linz on the Rhine. Impressive is the contrast between old half-timbered houses and a house from the 1950s, which is massively overgrown with green ivy.⠀ ⠀ The historical old town of Linz at river rhine with its half-timbered houses from five centuries ia an amazing place to travel. Linz is a town in the district of Neuwied in the north of Rhineland-Palatinate near the border to North Rhine-Westphalia. Linz is a state-approved tourist resort and, according to regional planning, is designated as a medium-sized centre. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ A ring wall complex, which was investigated in 1936 on the Hummelsberg near Linz and probably originated during the clashes between the Celts and the Germans, testifies to a settlement of the Linz area long before our era.⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ Grave finds in the city area date from the early Franconian period. Through Pippin the Elder and Pippin the Middle, the Nivelles monastery not only received goods in Rheinbrohl and Ariendorf, but also vineyards in Wallen near Linz. In the 8th century Linz was then the centre of a small Untergau, the Linzgau, which is mentioned in 771 and 778. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ #srs_germany #loves_united_germany #meindeutschland #deutschland_greatshots #bestgermanypics_ #deutschlandkarte #raw_germany #ig_deutschland #topgermanyphoto #sharegermany #visitgermany #ig_germany #IN_GERMANY #europstyle_germany #phoenix_germany #batpixs_germany #germanvision #deutschlandmylove #super_germany_channel #inspirational_germany #travel_2_germany #lifeofgermany #visitrlp #german_landscape #kings_villages #placestotravel_s, #travel_drops #housesofeurope #grmnyvacations #houses_phototrip at Linz Am Rhein, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany

Monreal/Eifel, the medieval village centre with its numerous, lovingly restored, picturesque houses - typical Eifel half-timbered houses. The romantic and dreamy corners - a picture of past centuries. The protected location, embedded in the idyllic valley of the Elz. Monreal shows how identity is created by returning to the beautiful historical building fabric. Visitors can hardly resist the charm of the medieval village with its romantic corners and its picturesque location in the narrow Elz Valley, gracefully overlooked by the ruins of the Lion's Castle and Philippsburg Castle. Here we see St. John Nepomuk on the St. John Bridge. The bridge was built around 1500, the Nepomuk sculpture is a copy of the original by J. Matthias Büls from Monreal, which he modeled in 1803. ⠀⠀ Johannes Nepomuk was arrested and tortured in a dispute between Archbishop Johannes Jenstein of Prague and King Václav IV of Bohemia, together with other archbishop's officials, while the Archbishop himself managed to escape. As the highest ranking bishop's representative, Johannes Nepomuk was finally thrown from Charles Bridge into the Vltava River and drowned. According to legend, the corpse of the person floating in the water is said to have been surrounded by five flames, which is why John Nepomuk is often depicted with five stars around his head.⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ #srs_germany #loves_united_germany #meindeutschland #deutschland_greatshots #bestgermanypics_ #deutschlandkarte #raw_germany #ig_deutschland #topgermanyphoto #sharegermany #visitgermany #ig_germany #IN_GERMANY #europstyle_germany #phoenix_germany #batpixs_germany #germanvision #deutschlandmylove #super_germany_channel #inspirational_germany #travel_2_germany #lifeofgermany #visitrlp #german_landscape #kings_villages #placestotravel_s, #travel_drops #housesofeurope #grmnyvacations #kings_villages at Monreal, Germany

Summer day in april on the Rhine...Neutor in Erpel/Unkel am Rhein. Erpel is a local community in the district of Neuwied in the north of Rhineland-Palatinate and is a state-approved tourist resort. The village centre lies in the valley of the northern Middle Rhine on the edge of the Rhine-Westerwald Nature Park. In the east of the municipal area, the Erpeler Kirchspielwald extends as far as the Rhine Westerwald volcanic ridge.⠀ The origin of the place lies in the darkness and, according to historians, dates back more than 1500 years. In old documents the place Herpilla, later Erpilla, then Erpell is called. Herpilla is of Celtic origin and means "meadow-covered hill", meaning the Erpeler Ley. The people settled here because the Ley has a full southern position and the meadows had the first spring green for the cattle. ⠀ ⠀ The oldest surviving document dates from October 1167, in which it is reported how Erpel was donated to the Cologne cathedral chapter in 1130. In the first half of the 13th century the village received a fortification wall on the Rhine and a ditch with thorns on the land side. In the 14th century a circular wall was built around Erpel. The fortification wall means an extension of the old town centre to the north and south. The imposing gate tower, the Neutor, still stands from the fortification. ⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ #srs_germany #loves_united_germany #meindeutschland #deutschland_greatshots #bestgermanypics_ #deutschlandkarte #raw_germany #ig_deutschland #topgermanyphoto #sharegermany #visitgermany #ig_germany #IN_GERMANY #europstyle_germany #phoenix_germany #batpixs_germany #germanvision #deutschlandmylove #super_germany_channel #inspirational_germany #travel_2_germany #lifeofgermany #visitrlp #lovely_trier #kings_villages #placestotravel_s, #travel_drops #PlacesShare #wonderful_places, #grmnyvacations at Erpel

Worker in a german iron foundry casting the liquid metal into a mould. In 2009, they used their valves to ensure that the slag was not poured out. Nowadays this is no longer necessary with modern induction processes. ⠀ The melt then solidifies, sometimes in parallel. These processes have a decisive influence on the quality of the castings. The melt can be filled directly from the furnace into the mould or, as shown in my picture, into casting ladles or casting spoons and only then into the moulds.⠀ The melt cools on contact with the mould. Solidification should not begin until the mould is completely filled, otherwise defects may occur. The above-mentioned sliders were also used to prevent premature cooling.⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ #srs_germany #loves_united_germany #meindeutschland #deutschland_greatshots #bestgermanypics_ #deutschlandkarte #raw_germany #ig_deutschland #topgermanyphoto #sharegermany #kings_works #loves_jobs #ig_4elementi #bnw_workers #total_jobs #raw_colours #dm_photolife #bd_pro #PEOPLE_INFINITY #INFINITY_RED #worldcolours_people #ig_shotz_people #globe_people #picturetokeep_people #picture_to_keep #theworldshotz #loves_united_people #shots_r_stars at Mainz, Germany

In the evening......The Sankt Georgsbrunnen in Trier is considered one of the most beautiful rococo fountains in Germany.⠀ ⠀ It is located on Kornmarkt in the old town of Trier. It was built between 1750 and 1751 according to plans of the court architect Johannes Seiz, the builder of the Electoral Palace in Trier, in honour of the sovereign Elector Franz Georg von Schönborn with depictions of the seasons and St. George. The top of the fountain rises about eleven metres into the air. The numerous, today empty cartouches at the fountain probably originally bore the painted coats of arms of the Councillors of Trier. In order to avoid contamination of the water the fountain was surrounded by an iron grid, which was removed in the early 20th century.⠀ ⠀ When it was built, the fountain stood further east on the square in front of the old town hall, which was destroyed during the Second World War. Like this one, the well was severely damaged by air raids, so that the restoration after the war was very costly and large parts of the well had to be reconstructed. On this occasion, the well was moved to its present location. It was last restored as part of the renovation of the grain market in 2003, and a return to its original location was also considered. For financial reasons and because the buildings surrounding the old site were constructed in modern forms after the Second World War, which were not necessarily conducive to the effect of the well, this was ultimately ignored. ⠀ Source: Wikipedia.de⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ #srs_germany #loves_united_germany #meindeutschland #deutschland_greatshots #bestgermanypics_ #deutschlandkarte #raw_germany #ig_deutschland #topgermanyphoto #sharegermany #visitgermany #ig_germany #IN_GERMANY #europstyle_germany #phoenix_germany #batpixs_germany #germanvision #deutschlandmylove #super_germany_channel #inspirational_germany #travel_2_germany #lifeofgermany #visitrlp #lovely_trier #kings_villages #placestotravel_s, #travel_drops #PlacesShare #wonderful_places, #grmnyvacations at Trier, Germany

Stolzenfels Castle is enthroned on the left side of the Rhine above the Koblenz district of Stolzenfels, for which it was named, opposite the Lahn estuary. The complex, which was only converted into a castle at the beginning of the 19th century by the Prussian crown prince, dates back to a 13th century Electoral customs castle, which was destroyed in 1689. The neo-Gothic castle is the most outstanding work of Rhine Romanticism. The entire complex also includes a hermitage in Gründgesbachtal, the former staff apartment, and a landscape park.⠀ In the years 1826 to 1833 Friedrich Wilhelm IV had the classicistic-neo-Romanesque parish church St. Menas in Stolzenfels built by the architect Johann Claudius von Lassaulx (you can see this in the middle of my picture). He then rebuilt the castle as a Prussian summer residence on the Rhine. From 1836 to 1842, Karl Friedrich Schinkel was involved in the construction of today's classicist castle. ⠀ Source: wikipedia.de - ⠀ ⠀ Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ #srs_germany #loves_united_germany #meindeutschland #deutschland_greatshots #bestgermanypics_ #deutschlandkarte #raw_germany #ig_deutschland #topgermanyphoto #sharegermany #visitgermany #ig_germany #IN_GERMANY #europstyle_germany #phoenix_germany #batpixs_germany #germanvision #deutschlandmylove #super_germany_channel #inspirational_germany #travel_2_germany #lifeofgermany #visitrlp #german_landscape #kings_villages #fever_old_stones #castles_oftheworld #loves_united_castle #manor_n_castle #grmnyvacations at Stolzenfels Castle

Bad weather on Germany's most famous rock: the Loreley in the romantic Middle Rhine Valley. Here seen from the south from the middle of the river, not far from the dangerous rapids. The Loreley is a slate rock in the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley near Sankt Goarshausen, Rhineland-Palatinate,) is located on the inside of a Rhine curve. The view from above to the Rhine curves and to Sankt Goarshausen with the castle Katz is an attraction for tourists. A few hundred metres from the lookout point is the Loreley open-air stage, built in 1939, where regular major events (for example rock concerts) take place. Loreley has also been the name of a magician or mermaid on this rock since Clemens Brentano's novel Godwi (1801) in the form of a ballad, Lore Lay. Brentano's invention had such a strong reception on the spot that even before the middle of the 19th century his story was stylized as an old legend (as "fairy tales from old times", see Die Lore-Ley by Heinrich Heine). However, the content of this fictitious saga told by Brentano, Heine and others is clearly linked to mythologies already known from Greek mythology, such as the nymph Echo, which is transformed into a rock, the magical view against which the looked at is defenseless, or the perishable song of the sirens for sailors. Brentanos Lore Lay attracts every man with her beauty and kills him. Heinrich Heine concretizes this by the sailors who had an accident in the Rhine and were distracted by the singing of the Loreley. Rothenburg on the Moselle is how the travel guide from Dumontverlag describes the double village Ediger-Eller. Here a richly decorated half-timbered house directly on the Moselle promenade. Today the Hotel/Winery "Alte Weinstube" is located here. A visit is guaranteed to be worthwhile. Not only because of the excellent but affordable Riesling wines but also because of nice rooms and good food. The first important settlers were Celts, who also named the place: Ediger = ethegreia = sandbank. Ediger was first mentioned in 639 AD under King Scrooge I. In the early Middle Ages it stood in the shadow of the then larger Eller, but gained in importance in the High and Late Middle Ages and was elevated to town in 1363 by Emperor Charles IV. In Merovingian times, Eller was a royal court. So after 507 St. Friedolin proselytized here and built a monastery in honour of St. Hilarius. In 1097 Eller became a large parish. Under the reign of the Electors of Trier, the place experienced a heyday. More than 70 villages had to deliver their tithes in the tenth house in Eller. There existed an own Ellerer measure. A city wall that is still largely preserved today, numerous historical monuments, monasteries, noble courts and half-timbered houses in picturesque alleys lead to the name "Rothenburg an der Mosel". But what Rothenburg doesn't have: The steepest vineyard in Europe, the Calmont! ⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ #srs_germany #loves_united_germany #meindeutschland #deutschland_greatshots #bestgermanypics_ #deutschlandkarte #raw_germany #ig_deutschland #topgermanyphoto #sharegermany #visitgermany #ig_germany #IN_GERMANY #europstyle_germany #phoenix_germany #batpixs_germany #germanvision #deutschlandmylove #super_germany_channel #inspirational_germany #travel_2_germany #lifeofgermany #visitrlp #german_landscape #kings_villages #placestotravel_s, #travel_drops #housesofeurope #grmnyvacations #kings_villages at Ediger-Eller

Monreal in the Eifel region. Late in the summer. A very special atmosphere with fantastic light at the bridge over the Elz with the famous Four Lions Fountain which you can guess here from behind. Four-gabled house in Monreal, the idyll of the Vordereifel...⠀ ⠀ Those who have met them enthusiastically call them the "Pearl of the Elz Valley". A special feature is the late medieval four-gabled house in the historic town centre, dating from 1452, recently completely renovated and thoroughly renovated. ⠀ ⠀ According to the literature, it was originally "perhaps a noble court house".⠀ Now that the local community of Monreal has been extensively renovated and refurbished, it offers space for weddings in a stylish ambience.⠀ If you want to make a covenant for life in the future, you can dare in this lovingly renovated half-timbered house in the centre of Monreal.⠀ My photo was taken on the Elzbrücke with the famous Four-Lion-fountain.⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ #srs_germany #loves_united_germany #meindeutschland #deutschland_greatshots #bestgermanypics_ #deutschlandkarte #raw_germany #ig_deutschland #topgermanyphoto #sharegermany #visitgermany #ig_germany #IN_GERMANY #europstyle_germany #phoenix_germany #batpixs_germany #germanvision #deutschlandmylove #super_germany_channel #inspirational_germany #travel_2_germany #lifeofgermany #visitrlp #german_landscape #kings_villages #placestotravel_s, #travel_drops #housesofeurope #wonderful_places, #grmnyvacations at Gemeinde Monreal

One of my favorite motifs. The Cathedral St. Peter at Trier is the oldest bishop's church in Germany and the mother church of the diocese of Trier. The cathedral stands above the remains of a representative Roman house. In the course of the "Constantine change" towards Christianity initiated by Emperor Constantine, a basilica was built between 310 and 320, i.e. in the time of Constantine the Great, which under Bishop Maximin (329-346) was extended into one of the largest church complexes in Europe with four basilicas, a baptistery and outbuildings. Around 340 the so-called square building was built, the core of the cathedral with four monumental columns from the Odenwald. The church complex of the 4th century was destroyed by the Franks, the square building and the northern basilica were rebuilt. Further destruction occurred in 882 during the Viking raids in the Rhineland.⠀ From the time of Bishop Egbert the cathedral was extended and redesigned. The western façade is a typical example of architecture among the Salians. The western choir was consecrated in 1121. ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ Source: Wikipedia.de ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ #srs_germany #loves_united_germany #meindeutschland #deutschland_greatshots #bestgermanypics_ #deutschlandkarte #raw_germany #ig_deutschland #topgermanyphoto #sharegermany #visitgermany #IN_GERMANY #europstyle_germany #phoenix_germany #batpixs_germany #germanvision #deutschlandmylove #super_germany_channel #inspirational_germany #travel_2_germany #lifeofgermany #visitrlp #kings_villages #placestotravel_s, #travel_drops #housesofeurope #wonderful_places #church_masters #loves_united_church #thehub_church at Cathedral of Trier

Sunny summer day in the late medieval town of Beilstein on the Moselle. Frankish grave finds show Beilstein's settlement around 800 AD. Since 1268 the village was the property of the Lords of Braunshorn. Under Johann von Braunshorn (1299-1346) Beilstein received city privileges from King Henry VII in 1309 and was fortified. A Jewish community whose Jewish cemetery above the castle still exists today has been documented since 1309. After the extinction of the Braunshorn family, the fiefdom passed to the von Winneburg family in 1360. After the Electors of Trier took possession of Beilstein in 1488, it enfeoffed the imperial counts of Metternich with the dominion of Winneburg and Beilstein in 1652. In 1689 the castle Metternich was destroyed by French troops. In the 17th and 18th century the townscape was created, which has been largely preserved to this day. The reign of the imperial counts of Metternich ended in 1794 with the occupation by the French revolutionary troops. Since 1946 Beilstein has been part of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ Source: Wikipedia.de ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ #srs_germany #loves_united_germany #meindeutschland #deutschland_greatshots #bestgermanypics_ #deutschlandkarte #raw_germany #ig_deutschland #topgermanyphoto #sharegermany #visitgermany #ig_germany #IN_GERMANY #europstyle_germany #phoenix_germany #batpixs_germany #germanvision #deutschlandmylove #super_germany_channel #inspirational_germany #travel_2_germany #germany_online #lifeofgermany #visitrlp #german_landscape #kings_villages #placestotravel_s, #travel_drops #housesofeurope #wonderful_places at Beilstein, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany
