The Canal Grande in Venice with the church Santa Maria della Salute in the background. It is one of two votive churches in Venice that were built on the occasion of a plague epidemic in the city. On 22 October 1630, the Doge Nicolò Contarini vowed to Our Lady a church with the request to end the plague that had been raging in the city since 1630 and in which the city lost about 46,000 inhabitants (one third of its population). The church was to be built in a prominent place on the Bacino di San Marco, opposite the Doge's Palace. The winner of the competition was the Venetian Baldassare Longhena, a pupil of Scamozzi. He spent his whole life building this wonderful baroque church. It was only in 1687, five years after his death, that it was consecrated.⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

A little weather above the Meerfelder Maar covered with thousands of water lilies and the name-giving village in the Volcanic Eifel. The Maar has a minimum age of 30,000 years and, according to the latest findings, is probably as old as 40,000 years. In 1978 the lake deposits were examined to determine the exact age. It was caused by a huge underground phreatomagmatic explosion that is triggered when hot magma hits a layer of water-rich rock when it rises. The explosively evaporating water shatters the surrounding rocks and in some cases hurls them upwards. The resulting cavity fills with rock again and a burglary funnel is formed at the surface. The magma chamber from which the magma rose lies about 2000 to 6000 m below the Meerfeld Maar. The total crater is about 125 ha. He is therefore one of the big mules in the Eifel. The highest crater edge elevation on the north side is 515.9 m above sea level. Half of the Maar basin is taken up by Lake Maar today. The village of Meerfeld lies on the southern edge of the boiler still within the hollow shape created by the eruption. The lake itself is characterised by increasing sedimentation. This is also reflected in the vegetation. In the shore areas, wide areas are covered with water-loving plants such as reed, reed, sea lentil, water lilies, hemlock and yellow irises. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ #srs_germany #loves_united_germany #meindeutschland #deutschland_greatshots #alluring_deutschland #deutschlandkarte #raw_germany #ig_deutschland #topgermanyphoto #sharegermany #visitgermany #IN_GERMANY #europstyle_germany #phoenix_germany #batpixs_germany #germanvision #deutschlandmylove #super_germany_channel #inspirational_germany #travel_2_germany #lifeofgermany #kings_villages #placestotravel_s, #travel_drops #germanytourism, #bns_landscape #grmnyvacations, german_landscape, #amazing_shots, #eifelexplorers, #visitrlp at Meerfelder Maar

Half-timbered house on the old fortified wall in Oberwesel on the Middle Rhine (world cultural heritage). As with many towns in the Middle Rhine region, the origins of these places and their names probably go back to a Celtic settlement. Thus, even in pre-Christian times, the present municipality of Oberwesel was a preferred settlement site of this part of the Rhine. The early place name "Vosavia" is said to date from around 50 B.C. and is traced back to the Celtic people who had settled large parts of Western Europe since about the third century BC. Traces left by these early settlers in Oberwesel are the numerous finds that could be recovered from burial mounds in the Oberweseler forest. Tribes of the people of the Treverians settled on the Moselle, on the heights of the Eifel and Hunsrück as well as on the narrow strips of the Rhine meadows, including in the area of today's city Oberwesel, of whose rich fishing grounds (salmon fish) were later reported by the Romans. They also found a forested hinterland for hunting there, so it was not necessary to move on, as their food seemed to be continuously secured on the spot. Shortly before the turn of the millennium (13/12 BC), the areas of Germania on the left bank of the Rhine fell to the Roman conquerors. In the course of securing these areas, the Romans established military camps, next to which towns and cities developed over time. The Torre degli Anziani at Padua in Italy⠀ ⠀ "At this stationery is the tower of the Commune, which was begun in the year 1215, and finished in the year 1296, & alli our times was raised, & adorned above the bells with verons around, and with the dome "⠀ (Angelo Portenari, Della Felicità di Padova, 1623). ⠀ ⠀ The Torre degli Anziani at Padua in Italy, also known as Torre del Comune or Torre Bianca, is a medieval civic tower that rises between the ancient Contrà del Sale (now Via Oberdan) and Piazza della Frutta in Padua. It is located between the Palazzo degli Anziani and the Palazzo del Consiglio, medieval buildings that make up the large complex of the Palazzo Comunale of Padua. On the tower was hoisted the civic flag.⠀ ⠀ The tower rises for 47 meters. The brick and stone construction rises on a spur of about 8 meters (mostly underground) composed of large stone blocks. Much of the building material is from the Roman era, reused, as was in use in the twelfth century. Along the walls there are few openings that are mostly plugged, and above the bell cell opened by mullioned windows, one on each side. The building has no particular decorations, excluding some stone ashlars inserted in the brickwork. The baroque Treasure Factory is located in the south. ⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

- Advertising because I'm naming a company. I don't get paid for it. - Palazzo Salviati is a palace on the Grand Canal in the Dorsoduro district (or sestieri) in Venice, northern Italy. It is situated between the Palazzo Barbaro Wolkoff and Palazzo Orio Semitecolo. The building was built as a shop and the furnace of the Salviati family between 1903 and 1906, designed by the architect Giacomo Dell'Olivo. The company was founded in 1859 by Antonio Salviati. In 1924 the building underwent a major renovation, which involved the addition of an extra floor and the placement of a large mosaic façade. Structurally the façade is relatively simple, with arched doors on the first and third floors and matching arched windows on the second floor. Attention is drawn to the mosaic figures that cover most of the façade, with a very large mosaic in the center of the building and smaller mosaics over the doors on the first floor and at the top of the third. Love in the shadow of the cathedral...The Cathedral of Padua (Basilica cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta) in Padua is the bishop's church of the Roman Catholic diocese of Padua. The diocese of Padua dates back to early Christian times. The tradition names the apostle disciple Prosdocimus († about 100) as founder and first bishop. Remains of an old church cathedral as well as early medieval subsequent buildings are to be located under today's cathedral forecourt. In 1075 Bishop Uldericus consecrated a new, representative cathedral, which was destroyed by the 1117 earthquake and replaced by a Romanesque cathedral until 1180. The Romanesque baptistery on the northeast corner of the cathedral (shown here on the right) was completed in 1281, the painting by Giusto de' Menabuoi in 1378. 1522 saw the laying of the foundation stone for a new choir based on the model of St. Peter in Rome. The first building plan came from Jacopo Sansovino. After a competition in 1551, the cathedral chapter decided on a design by Michelangelo, which was completed by 1582 with some modifications. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

One of the most beautiful houses on Lake Constance, the "Haus zum Cavazzen" is located on the market square in Lindau. With its mighty hipped roof and fascinating facade painting, the magnificent baroque building is one of the most striking buildings of the island city of Lindau and is home to the Lindau City Museum.⠀ ⠀ This baroque gem was built according to the plans and model of the Swiss architect Jakob Grubenmann from 1728 to 1729 after a devastating city fire. In addition to the elaborately painted facades, the unusually high curved roof immediately catches the eye, a masterpiece of the building technology of the time. It is not for nothing that the art historian Georg Dehio describes it as "one of the most beautiful baroque bourgeois houses in the Lake Constance region". The name Cavazzen probably comes from the family "de Kawatz", who once lived on this property in the 16th century and came from Lombardy.⠀ ⠀ Source: lindau.de⠀ ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ #srs_germany #loves_united_germany #meindeutschland #deutschland_greatshots #alluring_deutschland #deutschlandkarte #raw_germany #ig_deutschland #topgermanyphoto #sharegermany #visitgermany #IN_GERMANY #europstyle_germany #phoenix_germany #batpixs_germany #germanvision #deutschlandmylove #super_germany_channel #inspirational_germany #travel_2_germany #lifeofgermany #kings_villages #placestotravel_s, #travel_drops #germanytourism, # #houses_phototrip #welovebavaria #visitbavaria #bodensee_de #bodenseepage at Lindau, Bayern, Germany

The ox tower (in front) and the cat tower (behind) in Oberwesel, a town on the Middle Rhine, are part of the remaining medieval city fortifications. The round tower was the strongest fortified tower of that time in the region and was built in the middle of the 14th century. Both towers belong to the 16 still existing, formerly 22 fortified towers of Oberwesel in the ring wall surrounding the city. Today it is considered to be the best preserved city wall on the Middle Rhine. The Ochsenturm is a so-called Butterfassturm, i.e. a two-part fortified tower, in which the upper part of the tower has a smaller diameter than the lower tower. In this way, a rebound is created at half height, which was used as a circulating defensive walkway, while the slimmer attachment rising above had the function of an elevated lookout. The cat tower was named after the Counts of Katzenelnbogen. The county Katzenelnbogen was a county in the Holy Roman Empire, which existed from 1095 to 1479 on the Middle Rhine. From 1479 the Landgraves of Hesse were owners of the county and holders of the title of Count. The title "Graf zu Katzenelnbogen" is still part of the family name in the House of Hesse. Other bearers of the title are the representatives of two other ruling houses, namely the Grand Duke of Luxembourg and the King of the Netherlands. The Rialto Bridge (Italian Ponte di Rialto) in Venice is one of the most famous buildings in the city. The bridge crosses the Canal Grande and has a length of 48 m, a width of 22 m and a clearance height of 7.50 m. The clear width of the single arch is 28.8 m. The foundations of the two abutments consist of pile gratings with 6000 driven wooden piles on each side. The bridge next to the Fondaco dei Tedeschi connects the Sestiere San Marco with San Polo at a neuralgic point. The name of the bridge refers to the Rialto area in San Polo, which a few centuries ago was the city's most important trading centre. Rialto is derived from Italian Rivo alto' high bank. The Rialto area is the highest in Venice above the mean high tide. Source: Wikipedia.de ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀

The Palazzo della Ragione -view from Piazza delle Frutta -, also called Salone, is considered the secret landmark of Padua. It stands between Piazza delle Erbe and Piazza delle Frutta, where Padua's big markets take place. The upper floor is occupied by the former council and courtroom, the actual "Salone", which is spanned by a wooden roof construction similar to a ship's keel. It is one of the most important secular buildings of the High and Late Middle Ages and the Early Renaissance in Europe. The Palazzo della Ragione was built in 1172-1218 and about a century later (1306-1309) it was extended by a roof structure whose huge wooden vault, stabilised by tie rods, comprised three separate rooms. After a fire in 1420, the partitions were removed by the Venetian architects responsible for the reconstruction and the three separate rooms were combined into one huge hall. The 82 metre long, 27 metre wide and 25 metre high council hall (salone) with its unsupported wooden vault held together only by iron tie rods, whose construction is reminiscent of an inverted ship's hull, is one of the most extraordinary architectural creations of the late Middle Ages. Typical old town street in Padua with its typical arcades. The city lies on the edge of the Po Valley, 30 km west of Venice, on the Bacchiglione River and has 210,000 inhabitants. Padua is one of the oldest cities in Italy. According to legend, it was founded by the Trojan Antenor around 1184 BC. It is proven that in the 4th century B.C. a fishing village was built on the river Bacchiglione. The region quickly developed into an important centre for the people of Veneto. After the defeat of the Gauls against the Romans around 215 BC, the Veneto region became part of the Roman Empire and Padua or Patavium developed into one of the most important and richest trading cities of the Roman Empire. In 45 B.C. the city became a municipium. In 59 B.C. the Roman historian Titus Livius was born in Padua. ⠀ After Padua was destroyed by Attila in 452 and rebuilt by Narses in 554 at Justinian's command, it fell to the Lombards in 560. In 601 the city rose up against King Agilulf, who conquered it after 12 years of bloody siege and burned it down in 613. Ancient Padua was destroyed; the remains of the amphitheatre and some bridge foundations are the only remaining parts. ⠀ ⠀ Source: Wikipedia ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀

Linz am Rhein, the former upper city school. A half-timbered building from 1763 with mansard roof. In the mansard roof shape, also called mansard roof, the roof surfaces are bent in the lower area so that the lower roof surface has a much steeper inclination than the upper one. This creates additional living space for one or more attics. One (front side), two (mansard gable roof) or all four roof sides (mansard hipped roof) can be bent. The latter can often be found in isolated Baroque and 1920s buildings.⠀ ⠀ The name goes back to the French architects François Mansart (1598-1666) and his great-nephew Jules Hardouin-Mansart (1646-1708), who made this type of roof construction technique popular in their numerous magnificent buildings in Paris. The architect of the Louvre, Pierre Lescot, is considered to be the inventor, however, who had already realised this space-saving idea around 100 years earlier. The ruins of the Löwenburg (right) and Philippsburg (left) rise in the Elzbach valley in the Eifel on a 350 m high mountain spur above the romantic half-timbered town of Monreal. Löwenburg Castle was first mentioned in 1229. Its builder is Count Hermann III of Virneburg, who spicily built the complex on the land of his brother Philip under a partition treaty. However, the resulting fratricidal dispute was later settled.⠀ Philippsburg Castle was also built in the 13th century. According to local tradition the castle was built by Philip as a "response" to the unauthorized construction of the Löwenburg by his brother. The oldest preserved settlement traces in Monreal date from pre-Christian times. It was first mentioned in a document in 1193 as "Cunisberch" (Königsberg). At the beginning of the 13th century, the Counts of Virneburg extended their sphere of influence on the small settlement. According to the fashion of the time they used the French name "Monroial" (= Königsberg) from now on. Later it became the present name "Monreal". The place with its two castles was destroyed by Swedish troops in 1632 and by French troops in 1689 in the Palatinate War of Succession. After the Thirty Years' War, an important cloth industry developed in the town, based on the wool of the large flocks of sheep from the Eifel. Many half-timbered and quarry stone houses still bear witness to the former prosperity of the Monreal cloth makers. ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ #srs_germany #loves_united_germany #meindeutschland #deutschland_greatshots #alluring_deutschland #deutschlandkarte #raw_germany #ig_deutschland #topgermanyphoto #sharegermany #visitgermany #unlimitedgermany #IN_GERMANY #europstyle_germany #phoenix_germany #batpixs_germany #germanvision #deutschlandmylove #super_germany_channel #inspirational_germany #travel_2_germany #lifeofgermany #visitrlp #kings_villages #placestotravel_s, #travel_drops #germanytourism, #housesofeurope #houses_phototrip #wonderful_places at Burgruine Monreal

Narrow alley with magnificent half-timbered houses from four centuries in Linz on the Rhine. When walking through the cobbled alleys, it is better not to wear high heels...⠀ The historical old town of Linz at river rhine with its half-timbered houses from five centuries ia an amazing place to travel. Linz is a town in the district of Neuwied in the north of Rhineland-Palatinate near the border to North Rhine-Westphalia. Linz is a state-approved tourist resort and, according to regional planning, is designated as a medium-sized centre. A ring wall complex, which was investigated in 1936 on the Hummelsberg near Linz and probably originated during the clashes between the Celts and the Germans, testifies to a settlement of the Linz area long before our era.⠀⠀⠀⠀ Grave finds in the city area date from the early Franconian period. Through Pippin the Elder and Pippin the Middle, the Nivelles monastery not only received goods in Rheinbrohl and Ariendorf, but also vineyards in Wallen near Linz. In the 8th century Linz was then the centre of a small Untergau, the Linzgau, which is mentioned in 771 and 778. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ #srs_germany #loves_united_germany #meindeutschland #deutschland_greatshots #alluring_deutschland #deutschlandkarte #raw_germany #ig_deutschland #topgermanyphoto #sharegermany #visitgermany #unlimitedgermany #IN_GERMANY #europstyle_germany #phoenix_germany #batpixs_germany #germanvision #deutschlandmylove #super_germany_channel #inspirational_germany #travel_2_germany #lifeofgermany #visitrlp #kings_villages #placestotravel_s, #travel_drops #germanytourism, #housesofeurope #houses_phototrip #wonderful_places at Linz, Germany

The Basilica of Saint Anthony (Italian: Basilica di Sant'Antonio, often just Basilica del Santo or simply Santo) in Padua is one of the most famous and most visited sanctuaries in Italy. It is one of the only 8 international sanctuaries of the Catholic Church in the world. It is a papal basilica and basilica minor. It was built between 1232 and 1310 in Romanesque-Gothic style to house the tomb of Saint Anthony of Padua († 1231 in Arcella, today part of Padua). In Antony's time, a small chapel, dedicated to Maria Mater Domini, stood in the place of the present church and, according to the will of Antony, became his original burial place. Next to this chapel a monastery was built in 1229, which was probably founded by Antony himself. The foundation stone of the first part of the basilica was laid in 1232 shortly after the death of Antony in order to build him an appropriate burial church. The original chapel was incorporated into the basilica on the site of the present chapel of the Black Madonna in the left transept. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀
