I started adding farmers walks into to my workouts lately and holy hell, what a way to crank up fat burning and build strength. I managed to get in about 6 rounds up and back, brutal! My back, shoulders, grip, legs, core are feeling it. Very effective total-body routine. And it’s even useful beyond the gym. Yesterday’s session was quite “beefy.” 30x battle ropes, 12x sled thrusts, 15x kb swings, 5x pull-ups, 10x dips for time. Got in 6 rounds in just under 30 minutes. Pulled a double session today and my ass is whooped. Heavy sets of 5x5 squats and over head presses earlier today then tonight was pull-ups/dips supersets. My goal was 100 reps of each in 30 minutes, broken down into multiple sets of course. Got 100 dips in, but puttered out at 60 pull-ups. Week 2 of training and today’s session brought out the dog in me for sure. Farmers walks with 90 lbs in each hand didn’t sound too terrible, but by the 3rd set in, my forearms were on fire and my grip started to give toward the end of the last two sets. Felt hella good for sure though and I was able to hit my goal of 5 sets x 40 yds up, 40 yds back. Morning power walk, first time I’ve done this with 60 lbs strapped to my back. Not too bad for the first half mile or so, but I was really feeling the burn in my calves and shoulders by the 1 mile mark. I kept telling myself to ignore the pain and keep going. Was able to get 2 miles in just under 44 minutes. With all the snap, crackle and pops coming from my way, one would of thought I was snacking on a bowl of Rice Krispies! Nope, that’s just my knee making all that ruckus. I don’t normally wear supports but it felt good keeping the knees tight and probably caused some of that noise. Holy shit, today and the next 6 weeks are gonna suck but I’m ready to take things to the next level. My addiction to pain and challenge has convinced my brain to try something totally different with a strength and conditioning program I’ve mapped out for myself. Conditioning or any type of cardio for that matter has always been my weakness, hate it with a passion, but I gotta I gotta do this. 6 weeks of heavy lifting, ball-busting conditioning and a diet plan that has me eating more than I’m used to. I’ve always been torn between training strictly heavy vs high volume to grow my delts and have been pretty stoked with the results I’m getting from my latest efforts, which is a combination of both. I’ve also been doing a crazy amount of warmup supersets with each workout to get the blood flowing and joints prepped... talk about muscle burn, holy hell! I didn’t get enough good sleep this week which led to my depression kicking in which then led to binge eating by the end of the week, not to mention I haven’t had much motivation to get to the gym either.
