“A” a 13 year old Rohingya Muslim girl, peers out from her family’s shelter in Jamtoli refugee camp in Bangladesh. Soldiers had broken into her home back in Myanmar and raped her, an attack that drove her and her terrified family over the border to Bangladesh. Ever since, she had waited for her period to arrive. Gradually, she came to realize that it would not. The pregnancy was a prison she was desperate to escape. The rape itself had destroyed her innocence. But carrying the baby of a Buddhist soldier could destroy her life. Seen in a reflection off a mirror, "M" carries her baby boy in her shelter in Kutupalong refugee camp in Bangladesh. "M" was raped by 6 soldiers from Myanmar's security forces after they strangled her 2-year-old son to death. She later found out she was pregnant and eventually gave birth to a baby boy. After she told her husband what had happened, he blames her for the rape and wants nothing to do with her or the baby.
